It is with deep sadness that XENON share the news of Geoff Weir’s passing. Geoff was a kind-hearted and supportive colleague. His contributions to XENON were immeasurable, and his presence will be profoundly missed. Geoff was a veteran in the office automation industry starting his career in 1967 selling plotters and printers for 25 years which was followed by further 30+ years of sales in the computer industry. He joined the XENON team in 2003 and was a driving force in establishing our server business focusing on academia, government, and industry across Australia and New Zealand. His dedication to XENON was second to none, literally serving his customers to the very end. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. While Geoff may no longer be with us, the impact he made will remain in our hearts.

NIWA’s latest $20 million supercomputer, announced by Science Minister Hon Judith Collins KC MP, marks a significant leap in New Zealand’s research capabilities. As the country's most powerful research computer, it’s set to drive advances in climate, marine, and freshwater science with 2.5 to 3 times the processing power of its predecessor. Science Minister Hon Judith Collins KC MP has announced NIWA’s purchase of a new $20 million supercomputer. 🖥️ The next generation supercomputer is the fourth NIWA has bought, since its initial investment in high performance computing for New Zealand in 1999. “As the biggest research computer in New Zealand, it represents a $20 million investment in NIWA’s world-leading climate, marine and freshwater science and advanced technologies,” says NIWA Chief Executive, John Morgan. The new computer will have 2.5 to 3 times more generational power than its predecessor, allowing for higher resolution, more frequent processing and additional AI workloads.
