The New York Post has shared our research into the state of work for Australian Gen Zs, which has found around twice as many young females are leaving their jobs due to stress and customer abuse compared to young males. As young people start the new year entering new jobs, often in industries they’ve never worked in before, it’s a timely reminder to treat them with kindness and empathy so work can be a positive place for them where they can grow and gain skills to help them succeed in life.

One of the biggest issues hitting youth wellbeing at the moment is the cost of living, housing and renting, with our latest youth research finding a rapidly rising tide of young people who think they will never be able to afford a home in the future. But it's impacting young people in the here and now too as high rental prices delay many young people from moving out of home while also driving many to return to living with their parents to ease the financial pressure on themselves as they try and balance their work, study and social lives. Year13 Co-Founder Saxon Phipps said: "As house prices increase so too does the amount of young people who give up on the dream of owning one and this is playing out in the data with the large year on year spike in young people who see themselves as renting for life."

As school wraps up for the year and ATARs are released tomorrow our career data has revealed the most popular careers for school students in 2024, with psychologist emerging as the number one most popular profession! "We know there’s a shortage of psychologists at the moment", Year13 Co-Founder Saxon Phipps said. "To see psychologist as the most popular career for Australian school students in 2024 will no doubt be very welcome news to the profession and to people who need these vital mental health services." Australian Psychological Society chief executive officer Dr Zena Burgess said growing interest in psychology was no surprise. "There are lots of people who wish to be a psychologist. Patient demand is very high, and increasingly, people can’t afford treatment due to the cost of living pressures and slow progress in mental health reform."
