Earlier this year we launched our new yCapital initiative, to provide 0% interest loans to promising women-led ventures in Africa. We are excited to announce that our first loans have now been disbursed to three inspiring, innovative women in Kenya - Grace Waringa, Diana Muthee-Gitiba, and Joanie Kinyanjui. During the last couple of weeks in South Africa, I met two dozen incredible impact entrepreneurs who have been backed by ygap, like Humbulani Owen Mulaudzi. While his organic farming venture has seen gherkins shelved in Aussie supermarkets, Humbulani has been donating 10-15% of his weekly produce to the local soup kitchen and under-resourced daycare centres for the better part of a decade. With a nudge from ygap's 2019 accelerator, Humbulani began diversifying his crops to meet local demand - as pictured, I have never been more fascinated by intercropping, cover crops and cabbage seeds!
