Safety culture and improvement Leadership coaching at a WA Underground Gold Mine. I am truly privileged to be making a positive impact at an Underground Gold Mine. Recently, a supervisor shared, “When someone says you have a safety leadership coach coming, he’s not what you think you’re going to get. He had an immediate impact on how I Lead” This feedback, along with overwhelming support from other supervisors and frontline operators, is incredibly encouraging. It's an honor to help develop better leaders and see genuine excitement from the team. Identifying key opportunities for improvement and working through them is a rewarding challenge. #Leadership #TeamDevelopment #SafetyFirst #MiningExcellence #Gratitude

New CMSHR regulations have now defined the PHMPs required for surface coal mines as roads, strata failure, airborne dust, fire or explosion; or any other... I find "fire or explosion" interesting.... to me, these are 2 very different Material Unwanted Events... is this supposed to be where blasting fits? If so, it's going to be interesting to define competencies required by Management Structures... the RIIBLA series is for blasting and explosives, fire usually comes under RIIERR (Emergency Response and Rescue). Or at least, that's what is USED to be....

The first phase of a major two-stage drilling program has commenced at the Bluebird #copper-#gold discovery, on Tennant Minerals Barkly Project in the Northern Territory. This initial phase will include up to 4,500m of Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling targeting extensions of the high-grade copper-gold mineralisation, which is open in all directions. A second phase of up to 7,500m of RC and diamond drilling will expand on the RC drilling program and test other identified targets for repeats of Bluebird within the 2.5km strike-length Bluebird-Perseverance corridor. These targets include Perseverance for which the Company has been successful in obtaining a NT government co-funded grant. Tennant Minerals CEO, Vincent Algar, said: “We see this program as the stepping stone to defining a maiden Mineral Resource. We will then commence development studies into what will hopefully be an exciting new copper-gold development for Tennant Creek – which has already produced 5.5Moz of gold and 700kt of copper. “This drilling, designed to expand Bluebird, is occurring at a time of globally rising demand for copper, and strong pricing for gold, and we hope to deliver positive results into this environment.” Read full #ASX Announcement here: https://bit.ly/3z9kK2v #TMS #ASXNews #exploration

A clear update covering the new national EPA, the new office named HEIA who will be responsible for improving accessibility to national environmental data, and for the first time a legal definition for "nature positive" - 'an improvement in the diversity, abundance, resilience and integrity of ecosystems from a baseline'. My initial concern is around the future integrity of the term nature positive considering this measure is reliant on organisations' ethics when collecting baseline data.

Today's announcement of our Heads of Agreement with JFE Shoji is a big deal. As long-standing trading partners, it is logical that Japan and Australia are now working together to secure new supply chains for future, low-carbon intensity steelmaking. Australia has recognised its part to play with "green iron" industry consultation processes currently in progress within both the South Australian and Federal governments. Our agreement with JFE represents one of the first transactions on this important journey for both countries. Magnetite Mines' Razorback Project in South Australia is one of only a handful of large, undeveloped iron ore projects worldwide that can support the transition to decarbonised steelmaking using proven technologies. JFE Shoji is the trading arm for JFE Steel Corporation, which is: ▶ Japan's second largest steelmaker ▶ The world's 14th largest steelmaker ▶ Committed to decarbonisation: 👉 https://lnkd.in/g9p8Zdt6 👉 https://lnkd.in/g5apcxgz Following a global search and due diligence process, JFE have prioritised Magnetite Mines and its Razorback Project for a potential partnering arrangement. Through this landmark agreement and associated funding flow, both companies will prioritise working towards a Final Investment Decision for Razorback, with a view to a long term Joint Venture relationship that could span many decades ahead, helping secure economic prosperity for both our companies and our countries.

Hardly a little known foundation stone for the resources industry. The JORC Code has been incorporated in the ASX Listing Rules since 1989, and used by ASIC as the reasonable basis for public disclosure by resources companies for decades. The current draft Code update reinforces the existing disclosure regime, providing improved clarity and consideration of ESG factors is not new. Environmental, social and governance considerations have always been part of JORC Figure 1 Modifying Factors, to be considered when moving from Mineral Resources to Ore Reserves. What has changed is the emphasis on disclosing these considerations in a material and transparent manner, specific to the project. ESG has always had its place, the draft Code update has just made it clearer.

On my last day with Fortescue, it's with pride that I look back on what a small closure team embedded within mine planning can achieve. In less than 8 years, together we: - Worked on 76 mine closure plans, proactively adjusting closure strategies to match changeable mine plans, 32 of those MCPs supporting Mining Proposals approved by DEMIRS. - Developed +20 waste dump design reports and designed 10 backfilled landscapes, making it possible to rehabilitate over 30 otherwise abandoned pits, to give the land a future use. - Invented a new waste dump rehabilitation design, which is safer to rehabilitate and stores more rock per footprint than traditional approaches, which is currently undergoing field trials at the Solomon and North Star mines. - Held over 130 stakeholder workshops, including 17 Introduction to Closure Planning classes. - Kicked off the reuse of mined land, repurposing land at Cloudbreak mine, instead of defaulting to clearing native vegetation, to host solar farms for green energy generation. - Completed 10 closure cost provision external financial audits using an internal cost model, which was also deployed to quickly evaluate closure options for mine studies and operational changes, reducing recommendation timeframes from months (if using external consultants) to days. And with a lot of help from my friends we helped to: - Re-imagine how the Pilbara Rehabilitation Group should function, introducing workshops to share rehab information between a larger number of company members, instead of just the committee members. - Establish the federally funded CRC TiME, to improve closure planning of social, community and land use transition aspects in Australia. I'd like to thank all the former team members who contributed to the integrated closure planning team's success: Joseph Orr, Sarah Robinson, Raj Desai, Nina McEwan, Clinton Harsant, Fotios Gardounis, Joshua Foote, Kylie McKay, Scott Downs, and the environmental geology team that were spun out from the closure team: Rachael Cooke, Tom Johnston, Terry Harck and Helen O'Keeffe. And of course, big thanks to all the technical services team members who carried out the numerous design performance assessments, to demonstrate that our sometimes unique and always creative closure strategies were likely to maintain environmental and cultural values within the post-closure landscape. At the end of Fortescue's integrated closure planning journey (following a corporate restructure), I hope we managed to educate and inspire those we met to "keep closure in mind when starting a design". Now I can (finally) have some time off, finish my crochet blanket, and plan for the next adventure.

Hey #Geologists and #ResourceGeos! Our team is growing and we are looking for both Senior and Principal level people to join us. Although the ad says the position is Perth based, for the right fit we'd consider most Australian locations. I'm at Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum this week with Chris Meikle and we'd be happy to connect with you for an informal chat if you're here. Send me a message! We are a friendly team of over 40 geologists that are focused on Mineral Resource work. We work within a Mining Advisory group that provides technical support to explorers and miners, prepares Mineral Resource estimates, and participates in Resource and Reserve audits and technical due diligence work supporting operational best practice initiatives and industry transactions. Some helpful information for those on the fence about applying: - the Mining Advisory group is new this year to SLR in Australia, but is well established globally and we work on every continent except Antarctica. Joining our Australia group presents an opportunity to participate in the development of the team and the business locally, while being supported by our global group. - We're busy, but in my 12 years experience with this group, I've managed a pretty good work life balance. A lot of us have young families and/or other non-work interests, and our leaders are committed to us having both (a work life and a life). We have a flexible work-from-home schedule. - The team is really supportive and supported. There is a functioning open door policy are we are constantly helping each other and sharing our knowledge and learnings so that we can all do our best work. We have great mentors who are committed to us and the needs of our clients. - We are innovating. We are using and developing new tools and workflows all the time to grow and push the envelope of best practice Resource Estimation. - The travel schedule is manageable. A few trips a year of a week or less. Usually a bit more for those that want, and a bit less for those who find a lot of travel challenging. - We benefit from the #OneTeam ethos at #SLR. By being part of larger community, we are working within a framework of engineers, metallurgists, and scientists who specialize in mining. This means our work is informed by their knowledge and our models reflect this. Resource Geos are hot commodities these days, but our team sticks together. I think the bullets above are just a few of the reasons why. Come and join us! https://lnkd.in/gAUz7TqB #slr #career #sharethisplease

Webinar | Draft Eligible Mining Activity Regulation Join EIANZ and NELA webinar for a deep dive into the proposed changes to the Eligible Mining Activity (EMA) Framework in Western Australia. Introduced in 2022 by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS), the Eligible Mining Activity Framework in WA enables certain minimal disturbance and low-impact activities to be automatically authorised without an environmental assessment. DEMIRS has since revised the criteria for an EMA in its draft EMA Regulations, which specify permitted and prohibited activities, conditions and requirements under an EMA Notice and other critical aspects. The draft regulation is currently open for consultation. This webinar, co-hosted by EIANZ and NELA, will delve into the potential impacts of these proposed changes on prospecting and exploration activities within the mining industry. Speakers will provide an overview of the draft EMA Regulations, detail the prescribed conditions, and provide an analysis on the broader industry implications of the proposed regulation amendment. Come along to this insightful session to ensure you stay ahead in the evolving mining regulatory landscape. When: 26 June 2024, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Cost: Free for EIANZ and NELA Members | $5 for Non-members https://lnkd.in/drJ5qJnh

Kingfisher Mining (ASX:KFM) has a co-funded diamond drilling program underway at carbonatite pipe targets in the Mick Well Rare Earth Elements (REE) Project in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. Three large carbonatite pipe targets at Mick Well have been identified below the company’s high-grade vein and dyke #REE mineralisation discoveries and these will be the focus of the planned program of two diamond drill holes for approximately 1200 metres. These carbonatite pipe targets were generated through three-dimensional modelling of gravity and magnetics data, with areas with more dense and more magnetic rocks identified from the geophysics.
