Congratulations to Kevin Windle and Elena Govor on being shortlisted for the Australian Academy of the Humanities 2024 Medal for Excellence in Translation for 'Voices in the Wilderness A Digest of the Russian-Language Press in Australia 1912–1919' [Australian Scholarly Publishing]. The Medal for Excellence in Translation is a major national award that recognises outstanding achievement in translation and the vital role of translators and translation in Australian culture and scholarly discourse. Established in 2016, it is awarded biennially for a book-length translation into English of a work of any genre (including scholarship), from any language and period. The recipient of the 2024 Medal for Excellence in Translation will be announced on International Translation Day, Monday 30 September 2024. Eco-Crisis Poetry 📜🌳 Join us for a session with poet Rae Armantrout as she explores the relationship between poetry and environmental crisis. Armantrout will read and discuss selected eco-poems from her collection 'Go Figure' (2024) and recent unpublished works that examine human awareness and the impact of ecological loss. Moderated by Bridget Vincent from the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, who researches and teaches in poetics and climate change, this session invites participants to consider how poetry can contribute to our understanding of environmental challenges and foster discussions about our ecological future. https://lnkd.in/gMJMiNSW

Recently the ANU Centre for Learning & Teaching, in collaboration with the College, launched the multimedia studio: a joint space that supports educational multimedia productions on campus. The space features cameras, a teleprompter, LCD screens, podcasting equipment, green screen backdrops and more to help our academics create engaging learning content. Researchers from the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, and the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at the ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences are behind a new picture book aimed to raise awareness and understanding for children around bushfire smoke.
