An investigation by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) - Four Corners, has identified fraud, waste and low-value care across Australia’s ‘back pain industry’. The identified trends encompass billing for many areas such as services not rendered, unnecessary admissions to intensive care, and the provision and billing of potentially harmful services that patients do not require. PHA will be tasking payment integrity experts within its health funds to thoroughly investigate allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse specifically in spine surgery for back pain. You can find additional comments by PHA's CEO, Dr. Rachel David, here: https://lnkd.in/gs-2Nbgb and access the full report https://lnkd.in/gichWYWD #PrivateHealthcareAustralia #Healthcare #Medicare
