Asset owners with a total portfolio approach have outperformed those with strategic asset allocation by 1.8 per cent per annum in the past decade, according to recent research, but even that number sounds like an underestimation to Sue Brake, the former chief investment officer of Future Fund who is now an independent consultant. As funds face a paradigm shift in the investment environment, TPA emerges as a valuable tool to implement their purpose. #totalportfolioapproach #assetowners #InvestmentMagazine https://lnkd.in/g6DXcCUx

Tapping into super for housing might not be great policy, but it could be great politics. The superannuation industry needs to prosecute its argument for preserving retirement savings effectively, rather than dismissing it as an election gimmick, Glenda Korporaal writes. #superannuation #retirement #InvestmentMagazine https://lnkd.in/gdUeb7Ng

Super funds are being called upon to do more to help their members transition to retirement. But we think the industry’s partners and supporters must also assist where we can. That is why we are launching a new media title dedicated to the mission of giving Australia the world’s best retirement system. Retirement Magazine will sit alongside our longstanding domestic institutional brand Investment Magazine as symbolising the two – equally important – phases of super: decumulation and accumulation. It will initially take the form of an annual, premium print publication, co-edited by our editor-in-chief Aleks Vickovich and The Conexus Institute executive director Dr. David Bell. Aimed at a readership of senior executives in super and financial advice, it will bring together a unique mix of academic research, journalism, industry thought leadership and practical solutions and management thinking, all with the purpose of enhancing the system for consumers. Please follow our new page Retirement Magazine and stay tuned for more information about the launch edition and its valued contributors. But for now, sincere thanks to our launch partners Allianz Retire+, Challenger Limited, TAL Australia, T. Rowe Price and UniSuper. #retirement #superannuation #financialadvice #decumulation #publishing #publicpolicy #retirementmagazine

The prudential regulator has made clear to a room full of the biggest super funds in the country that they are obligated to have a strategy that works for all members, from high-net-worth to low-balance members. The message to the Conexus Retirement Conference was simple: outsourcing to external advisers will not fulfill their Retirement Income Covenant obligations. #retirement #superannuation #InvestmentMagazine https://lnkd.in/gJK_BiYy

ASIC Commissioner Simone Constant says super fund trustee boards, and not just management, must be held accountable for helping members transition to retirement and therefore must have the requisite skills. The comments to the Conexus Retirement Conference came as the regulator urged the super sector to view their members as “customers” instead. #retirement #ASIC #InvestmentMagazine https://lnkd.in/g45SPVjn
