Queensland’s critical minerals sector has taken a leap forward with the launch of the Critical Minerals and Circular Economy Research Alliance – a new partnership between the Queensland Government and The University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute. This $8 million research program will drive the discovery and development of critical minerals while fostering a circular economy in Queensland. This means everything from mining and processing critical resources to supporting the renewable technologies Queensland needs to decarbonise. We already connect and collaborate regularly with UQ's world-renowned Sustainable Minerals Institute, and we're looking forward to working with their researchers to develop new ways to identify and develop critical minerals resources in Queensland. The Alliance is a key action in the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy which will help to create a more prosperous future for our state and its resources industry 🤝 https://lnkd.in/gfdBPDaE

Vecco Group is another business set to benefit from the $30 million Mount Isa Mining Acceleration Program, aimed at accelerating local mining initiatives and growth for the region. $2.33 million of this funding is allocated to Vecco's Critical Minerals Project near Julia Creek. The project aims to extract vanadium and high-purity alumina (HPA), essential critical minerals crucial for supporting battery production in Townsville's downstream sector. Scheduled to begin construction this year, the Julia Creek project is expected to generate 300 jobs across 2025 and 2026. By 2026, the operational phase is expected to employ 274 workers, further contributing to regional employment and economic stability. 📸 Vecco Group

Then and Now... Two years ago, we held the first Ministerial Advisory Group meeting in Townsville and yesterday we returned back to where it all started. The Ministerial Advisory Group is Action 1 in the #QueenslandResourcesIndustryDevelopmentPlan. The remit of the group is to monitor, guide, and advise both government and industry on the implementation of the actions and commitments outlined in the plan. Fast forward through Mount Isa, Mackay and Dalby, and add an expanded remit that also now includes both QRIDP and the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy, and this group has become a pivotal compass for designing future solutions. Yesterday we debated, ideated and shared experiences around some big topics including a future workforce, decarbonisation and attracting investment in the sector. These engagements always produce meaningful, productive discussions which are so vital in advancing Queensland’s great resources industry. #governmentandindustrycollaboration Department of Resources (Queensland) | Warwick Agnew | Shaun Ferris | Queensland Resources Council | Australian Energy Producers | AMEC (Association of Mining and Exploration Companies) | AusIMM | Critical Minerals Association Australia

North West Phosphate's Paradise South mine will receive $5.77 million in funding from the million Mount Isa Mining Acceleration Program. Located about 130km north west of Mount Isa, the proposed Paradise South open cut mine has a forecast resource of two million tonnes of phosphate ore per year, with an initial life of at least 20 years. This funding will help ensure operations get underway sooner, with construction set to commence in the next year - generating 74 immediate jobs, and a further 492 construction jobs and 245 mining operations jobs by 2026. This project is not just about mining phosphate — it's about building a sustainable future for our regional communities. 📸 North West Phosphate #MountIsa #Queensland #Miningindustry

🏅 While gold, silver, and bronze medals are the most visible rewards at the 2024 Paralympic Games, critical minerals are working hard behind the scenes. Beyond the podium, these essential elements play a vital role in every aspect of the games. From the advanced prosthetics and adaptive sports gear that empower our athletes to perform at their best, to the construction of world-class stadiums, and even the technology that broadcasts the event around the globe—critical minerals make it all possible. Lithium, cobalt, copper, rare earth elements, and more aren’t just valuable resources in the ground; they’re essential in bringing the spirit of competition to life. As we cheer on these extraordinary athletes, let’s also recognise the incredible materials that help make the Paralympic Games an inspiring reality. 📸 Minerals Council of Australia #Paralympics #CriticalMinerals #Paris2024
