The 2024 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the The World Bank (WBG) took place in Washington DC last week. We were fortunate to be part of such an important event addressing poverty reduction and global economic development. Last week we had the pleasure of assisting Sydney Airport in raising A$1bn equivalent from the #USPP market across four maturities (11, 13, 15 and 20 years) and in five currencies (GBP, CAD, EUR, JPY and USD). The nine tranche transaction was the largest transport #infrastructure trade for 2024 and a triumphant return to a familiar #investor base for Sydney Airport, who last priced in the USPP market in February 2020 prior to COVID related border closures. The management team of Josh McHutchison and Michael Momdjian did an exceptional job in positioning the credit of Sydney Airport as Australia’s gateway to the rest of the world, as well as a key piece of domestic infrastructure, during a roadshow with US and Canadian investors. Meanwhile, the investors again demonstrated their appetite to commit long dated funding to Australian infrastructure, the core attraction of the USPP market for Australian #borrowers. The decision to expand the currencies on offer to include GBP, EUR, CAD and JPY alongside the traditional USD and AUD offered by Sydney Airport assisted in broadening the investor base with 14 new accounts participating in the ~A$1.7bn of total demand for the offering. The multi-currency offering also served to optimise pricing, with the transaction representing the tightest priced Australian infrastructure USPP in over two years. The NAB Securities team in New York were delighted to be able to introduce seven of those new investors to the Airport through the bookbuild, along with delivering nearly 60% of the total clearing bids for the airport. Congratulations to Sydney Airport and their treasury team for a landmark transaction.
