#TradiesHealthMonth Tradies working in construction and service industries often transport welding or cutting gases to site. It is important that safety measures are taken when transporting dangerous goods. This includes: ➡️ securely restraining gas cylinders in an upright position on the back of the ute or tray top ➡️ closing cylinder valves, remove regulators, use safety caps and vent all gas hoses ➡️ not smoking in or near the vehicle ➡️ not covering cylinders with a tarpaulin ➡️ removing cylinders from the vehicle before using them ➡️ carrying a fire extinguisher in the vehicle. The Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) Program is pleased to be supporting Suicide Prevention Australia in the development and implementation of a Suicide Prevention Competency Framework for the mining industry in Western Australia, which will be accompanied by an e-learning package comprising multiple educational modules for staff. The framework is being developed with the aim of assisting the mining industry in Western Australia to implement enhanced hazard elimination and risk mitigation tools and strategies within their communities. It will prioritise cultural accessibility and consider the diversity and inherent risks in this sector while, at the same time, considering the roles of all staff. Stakeholders will be asked to assist in the design of the Framework and e-learning packages. If you would like to participate or have further questions, please reach out to Sharon Bower at sharonb@suicidepreventionaust.org.

🌼 This #DaffodilDay, we want to remind workers that exposure to silica dust, diesel engine exhaust, asbestos and wood dust can increase the risk of developing certain types of cancer. Dust may not be an obvious hazard as the particles are often invisible and the health effects of exposure can take years to develop. Find out more about hazardous dusts and fibres on our website - https://ow.ly/bPjP50T2HsT To get involved in the Cancer Council Western Australia’s Daffodil Day Appeal, visit the link - https://ow.ly/h39p50T2HsV

The following steps may help you take action against workplace bullying: ➡️ Read your workplace’s policies and procedures ➡️ Seek advice ➡️ Monitor the behaviour ➡️ Consider reporting the behaviour ➡️ Seek support. If the behaviour involves violence, physical assault or the threat of physical assault, it should be reported to police.
