I think it was Caught By The River that introduced me to Cerys Hafana. This is a terrific album of folk tunes with a dark twist. You could easily imagine them ending up on the OST to a film in the vein of "The Wicker Man". All beautifully played and sung throughout. Hard to pick a favourite track, but maybe just "The Wife of Usher's Well". I keep hearing "Cold Clay, Cold Clay" in my head...
One that bears repeated plays to grasp the subtle depths to the songs, which are all fabulous. The piano/synth based songs in particular would sound fantastic whether played solo on piano, or with a full orchestra and a choir and that, to me, is one of the hallmarks of great songs!
Another absolute gem unearthed by the good people at acloserlisten.com. In places the music reminds me of the likes of Johann Johannsson, and A Winged Victory for the Sullen.
