The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) functions are to promote, assist and facilitate the efficient development of tourism; to design and implement suitable marketing strategies for the effective promotion of the tourism industry; to make provision for adequate and suitable air and sea passenger transport services to and from Barbados; to encourage the establishment of amenities and facilities necessary for the proper enjoyment of Barbados as a tourist destination; to carry out market intelligence in order to inform the needs of the tourism industry.

Yesterday, we celebrated the return of American Airlines (AA) non-stop service from New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport to Barbados, in time for the island’s winter 2024/2025 season.
The passengers, crew, and officials from AA, were welcomed with fanfare by a contingent including the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BTMI, Craig Hinds; CEO of the GAIA Inc., Hadley Bourne; Director, Marketing of BTMI, Mr. Robert Chase; Chief Product Development Officer, BTMI, Ms. Marsha Alleyne; Operations Manager of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Mr. Greg Broomes; and the Haynesville Tuk Band and dancers.
Direct service from Philadelphia International Airport is also set to commence this week.
In a press release, CEO of the BTMI, Andrea Franklin noted that as we continue our focus on increasing airlift capacity to Barbados, the American Airlines services from JFK and Philadelphia are a welcome move in the right direction. Their introduction exemplifies the strength of our relationship with American Airlines and is representative of our shared commitment to improving connectivity between Barbados and North America.

Preparations are well underway for this morning’s American Airlines Inaugural flight from JFK New York to Bridgetown, Barbados. AA 585, the same flight number used in the early days of this service departs at 7AM and arrives at 1244PM. An early start to your vacation!

The Barbados delegation, led by Minister of Tourism and International Transport the Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill, kicked things off this evening with a special reception, organised by the BTMI and hosted by the Minister, at The Shard, London. Key industry partners were in attendance.
