Global Startup Ecosystem: "This is an apple." Bangladeshi Startup Ecosystem: "This is an orange." For too long, Bangladeshi founders haven't operated at global standards. The ecosystem insists on defining its own terms that don't align with the rest of the world. As a result, our founders aren't taken as seriously abroad as their regional peers. Countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and Pakistan have seen exceptional growth by holding each other accountable on terminology, investor engagement, and even how they answer simple emails. Programs here consistently fail to deliver what truly makes founders successful beyond updating LinkedIn titles. Do you know the 100th best startup in India? Probably not—but you likely know some of their biggest successes. An ecosystem isn't defined by the quantity of companies but by the quality of its winners. We don't need 1,000 startups—we need 25 that are transformative for the country. Terms like "venture capital" should be used according to their global definitions. Misuse of these terms and a lack of understanding by fund managers have burned so many local investors and dampened the way people think about startups. No one has been more negatively impacted by this than entrepreneurs—whether they're running startups, SMEs, or social enterprises. They deserve better. The startup ecosystem needs a reset for it to successfully move forward. We need to focus on quality, not quantity, and we must stop calling apples oranges for local conveniences.

Incubators and mentors sometimes overlook the importance of assembling the right team for startups. Most focus on funding, product development, and marketing methods, but team chemistry can have a significant impact on a startup's success. When we look at the key aspects that lead to a startup's success, team and teamwork stand out as one of the most important factors. A cohesive team not only encourages invention, but it also improves problem-solving abilities in the high-pressure characteristic of early-stage startups. Throughout my career of over two decades, I have dedicated myself to assisting entrepreneurial ecosystems. My latest concentration has been on training and mentoring startups, where I'm known for my knowledge of fundraising strategy and empathy mapping. Understanding consumer behavior has also been an important aspect of my career. This thorough understanding enables me to assist entrepreneurs in developing effective marketing strategies that resonate with their target customers. Despite these advantages, my experience establishing teams and talent management systems has not received as much recognition. However, I recognize the importance that cohesive teams play in the success of any startup. One of the most critical problems for leaders in the post-pandemic era is talent management, particularly handling generational diversity within teams and the use of AI. Over the last three years, I have closely explored this topic using both practical experience and specific research. So, I was overjoyed when SustainLaunch Labs and its co-founder Fahim Shahriar contacted me to speak to the first batch of young South Asian startup founders about Forming the Right Team and Talent Management for Startups. SustainLaunch Labs is committed to promoting a sustainable future by assisting and guiding climate-focused start-ups through accelerator and incubation programs. The firm aims to build a portfolio of 100 eco-friendly businesses capable of long-term sustainability and potentially creating 20,000 new green jobs, primarily for climate-sensitive populations. During the session, I met with a dynamic group of young South Asian startup founders. The goal was not simply to teach key principles but also to question common wisdom about team dynamics in businesses. We started by looking at the issues that startups confront and how their team requirements differ dramatically from those of established firms. The conversation then turned to the complexities of talent management in the startup sector. We investigated how effective people management entails more than hiring; it needs cultivating a culture of collaboration and adaptation among team members. Ultimately, my goal was to equip these aspiring startup owners with insights that would empower them to build cohesive teams capable of successfully navigating the complexities of launching and scaling a startup. #startups #teamwork #talentmanagement #AIfortalentmanagement
