  • The zero-emission transition needs a boost. But EVs are not the bottleneck... In fact, over 350 battery-electric models are on the EU market today, and even more are on the way. The auto industry is playing its part in the transition, investing billions in electrification and rolling out more EV models than ever before. But mandates and manufacturers alone aren’t enough to make markets. Without the right enabling conditions, the market is not evolving as expected 👇

  • 🚛 Missed our recent #ACEATruckTalks webinar?    We tackled the urgent shift to zero-emission trucks and the challenges ahead. Our expert panel shared insights on the current state of heavy-duty road transport and the experiences of early adopters of battery-electric trucks.    Key takeaway: lack of dedicated charging infrastructure is a major barrier. Accelerating infrastructure rollout and creating supportive policies is crucial for making the transition a reality.    Huge thanks to our panelists Alexander Bjørn Jensen (Sustainability Manager for Roads, DSV Global Transport and Logisitics), Andre Kranke (Head of Corporate R&D, DACHSER SE), Michael Scheib (Head of Product Management, Daimler Truck), Thomas Fabian (Chief Commercial Vehicles Officer, ACEA) and all attendees! 🎉 Curious for more? • Ahead of tomorrow's important debate on the future of the auto industry, the European Parliamentary Research Service has outlined the major challenges impacting our sector. With a 43.9% drop in new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations, supply chain disruptions, increased competition from non-EU countries, and declining demand for electric models, our industry is facing significant challenges as it undergoes the largest transformation in its history.  Whilst the industry has invested billions in transformation and putting electric vehicles on the market, the demand is still lagging. As a result, EU automotive industry representatives are urging the EU institutions to take urgent action to address the costs of compliance for the 2025 targets and accelerate review of relevant legislation to fix issues on the demand side. We also agree that there is a clear need for a comprehensive EU industrial action plan for the automotive sector, addressing every stage of the value chain, as outlined in the Draghi report. To remain a global leader, the EU must adapt quickly to the new #competitive environment. We look forward to following the discussion.

  • ACEA takes note that the result of the vote by EU member states this morning allows the European Commission to move ahead with its proposal to impose definitive countervailing duties on imports of electric cars manufactured in China.   ACEA has consistently affirmed that free and fair trade is essential in creating a globally competitive European automotive industry, while healthy competition drives innovation and choice for consumers. Free and fair trade is essential for ensuring a level playing field for all competitors, but it is only one aspect of global competitiveness. For the European automotive sector to be competitive in the global electric vehicle race, a comprehensive industrial strategy is crucial, as highlighted in the Draghi report. This involves securing access to critical materials and affordable energy, establishing a consistent regulatory framework, expanding charging and hydrogen refilling infrastructure, providing market incentives, and addressing various other key factors. ACEA expects the regulation imposing the anti-subsidy measures to be published by the end of October. We also acknowledge the ongoing parallel efforts of Brussels and Beijing to negotiate a possible alternative to countervailing duties.  📎 https://lnkd.in/eHCFhq8x
