VOLUNTEERS HELP WITH US - an Update by ADRA CZECH Volunteer help is still very much needed! "We came to help because we were also flooded in 2010. We were helped, so now we are here," a volunteer of about 55 years helping in Krnov "We are absolutely thrilled with the girls, thank you for this opportunity!" volunteer Madgaléna with the team from CARITAS - Higher Vocational School of Social Sciences Olomouc helping in Ostrava We have 580 volunteers in the Ostrava, Bohumín and Krnov regions, some of whom have been helping for several days. Accommodation is now available in Krnov in a gymnasium. Food is provided thanks to the wonderful cooperation with www.jidloprovsechny.cz. ADRA CZ insures, coordinates and sends volunteers where they are most needed. Individuals and corporate teams are coming. There is always a need for people who can come to help even on a weekday. Registration for locations and for individual days is here: https://lnkd.in/gReJrFSc And the need? Mr. Dlouhý from Ostrava-Svinov says: "Yes, yes, yes, they helped. They were here for a while after the water receded. I have to say they were incredibly handy. I would really like to thank them. As soon as this madness is over, I'm going to send money to help, too. It was exactly what we needed. I didn't think there was such solidarity anymore. I haven't seen people this smart in a long time. You only realise when you're at the bottom. Here it turns out that when you're at your worst, there are people who will help you. I appreciate it."

On the eve of the definition of the new Political Guidelines of the European Commission for the 2024-2029 legislature, together with other civil society organisations organisations and @CONCORD’s Confederation we sent an open letter to the nominated President of the @European Commission, Ms @Ursula von der Leyen to raise the concerns and proposals of European civil society organisations working on international cooperation and sustainable development. In view of the worrying shift in the EU's foreign policy in recent years, increasingly driven by short-term economic self-interest and security concerns, European civil society calls on the new European Commission to deliver on its commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals as set out in the 2030 Agenda, building trust with partner countries, working for global well-being, peace and stability, with the reduction of inequalities at its core. The European Union must maintain its leading position as a global partner for the #SDGs, but these objectives cannot be achieved without an active role for civil society in Europe and globally. Civil society organisations are crucial allies in the efforts to promote sustainable human, social and economic development in Europe and beyond. We expect the @European Commission to engage with civil society as meaningful and equal partners who can positively contribute to EU policy elaboration, implementation and oversight. You can read the full open letter at CONCORD’s website ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ePFPFq6D

❌ The new @European Commission must prioritise partnership over competition. The European Union is shifting its focus on short-term economic self-interest and an outdated security approach which disregards people-centred solutions, ignoring its international cooperation Treaty obligations to fight poverty and inequality and to promote human rights. It is in the EU's interest to maintain its leading position in promoting sustainable development, to build trust with partner countries and to work for global wellbeing, peace and stability. We have sent a letter to the President-designate of the @European Commission, Ms @Ursula von der Leyen to raise the concerns and proposals of European civil society working on international cooperation and sustainable development. The open letter is available on CONCORD website ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ePFPFq6D

📩 As members of CONCORD, a few days ago we sent an open letter to President-nominee of the @European Commission, @Ursula von der Leyen. Together with other civil society organisations and members of @CONCORD's Confederation, we call on the new European Commission to stand up for sustainable development and deliver now on the European Union's commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 🇪🇺🤝🌍 We firmly believe it is in the EU's interest to promote development cooperation, building trust with partner countries, working for global well-being, peace and stability, with the reduction of inequalities at the core.
