👨🌾 At the Paris International Agricultural Show, the ACLP Managing Director Hélène Guillot joined the round table "Intellectual Property and Seeds: A Philosophy of Sovereignty", organized by SEMAE. 💡 Hélène highlighted how companies use different strategies to protect innovation, emphasizing the crucial role of licensing platforms in a system where patents & plant breeders' rights (PBR) coexist. These platforms help democratize access to innovation, particularly for SMEs. More insights in the article below. #EnablingInnovation

The Council has this week agreed its position for negotiations with the European Parliament on proposed rules on new genomic techniques. Plants bred using new genomic techniques can be very similar or even identical to products generated using conventional breeding techniques, or even to plants occurring naturally. The new rules aim to give legal clarity on new breeding methods that do not use foreign DNA. Why do we need EU rules on #NGTs? Find out more here 👉 europa.eu/!QVfQfp

📢 The ACLP Managing Director Hélène Guillot has taken part in the round table discussion "Intellectual Property and Seeds: A Philosophy of Sovereignty" during the SEMAE Salon International de l’Agriculture (Paris International Agricultural Show). 🎙️ Every year, SEMAE is present at the Salon International de l’Agriculture with its TV platform "Village Semence" (Seed Village), broadcasting daily during the whole event. This year, discussions cover key topics in the seed and plant sector: innovation, competitiveness, career opportunities, agroecology, food and seed sovereignty, biodiversity, and genetic diversity. 💡 During the discussion, Hélène explained that companies use different strategies to protect their innovations, and licensing platforms play a key role in today’s landscape, where patents & plant breeders' rights (PBR) coexist. They help democratize access by simplifying innovation sharing—especially for SMEs—while making licenses compulsory for members. 📌 Did you know? In Europe, less than 1% of commercialized agricultural crop varieties contain a patented trait! 🎥 Watch the full discussion (in French) 👉 https://lnkd.in/eqBr8g-Y #SIA2025 #VillageSemence #EnablingInnovation #IP #intellectualproperty #PBR #patents

🤔 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙚? 🔍 While ACLP membership requires a 5-year commitment to maintain platform stability, here’s what happens if a member decides to leave: 🔹𝘕𝘰𝘯-𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘴 & 𝘚𝘓𝘈𝘴: The licensor may terminate these for the departing company. 🔹𝘖𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯: The leaving member must continue granting non-asserts & licenses for 5 years on patented traits present at the termination date. 🔹𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴: Existing rights granted to other members stay unaffected. ✅ The ACLP ensures a stable, reliable platform for all members—even when paths diverge. 🌱 ℹ️ Learn more about the platform: aclp.eu/faq #EnablingInnovation

In January, the ACLP organized an insightful information session for policy makers working on the NGT proposal. The focus was on presenting the ACLP as an industry-led initiative aimed at providing customized solutions to the challenges of accessing patented traits and securing genetic material for breeding, without advocating for patenting.
