The EU-China Workshop on “Transition to a Circular Economy” – Achieving the Potential of Remanufacturing, held on February 20th, 2025, successfully brought together experts, government representatives, and industry leaders from both sides to exchange insights on advancing remanufacturing practices. This hybrid event, conducted at Beijing Yanjing Hotel, focused on regulatory and trade frameworks, as well as exploring opportunities for remanufacturing in B2B and B2C sectors. Online participation was also available, allowing a wider audience to engage in the discussions remotely. Our director, Clemens Ortgies, represented APRA Europe, while one of our Member Universities was represented by Prof. Matthias Vette-Steinkamp from Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld. This workshop was part of the ongoing EU-China cooperation on the circular economy, reinforcing shared goals to reduce environmental impacts while promoting sustainable business practices. EU-China Workshop on “Transition to a Circular Economy” – Achieving the Potential of Remanufacturing On February 20, 2025, from 15:30 – 18:30 (CST) / 08:30 – 11:30 (CET), the EU and China will host a hybrid workshop focused on remanufacturing within the circular economy. Held at the Beijing Yanjing Hotel, the event will address key developments in regulatory and trade frameworks in both regions, highlighting opportunities for remanufacturing in B2B and B2C sectors. The workshop will bring together government officials, industry experts, and academia to discuss strategies and policies to promote remanufacturing, which reduces environmental impact, conserves materials, and contributes to the circular economy. Remanufacturing offers significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and material usage, creating sustainable business opportunities. This initiative is part of ongoing EU-China cooperation to strengthen the transition to a circular economy, building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018 and the Roadmap developed in 2024. Topics covered will include regulations, market practices, and challenges such as liability and intellectual property protection, which are crucial for unlocking remanufacturing potential. The event will feature simultaneous interpretation in Chinese and English, with a focus on collaboration between both nations to achieve a more sustainable future.
