🟢 Shaping the Future of our Cities: ACE at the kick-off event of the European URBAN Forum Yesterday, ACE President Ruth Schagemann participated in the European Parliament in the kick-off event of the EUROPEAN URBAN FORUM, a vital platform for shaping #EU policies that impact our built environment. Bringing together #policymakers, #city representatives, and professionals, the forum aims to foster collaboration to build more #sustainable and resilient urban environments. On this occasion, ACE President underlined that #architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture are key drivers for the transformation of our cities. High-quality design fosters economic growth, strengthens resilience, and enhances social cohesion. The solutions exist—we now need a supportive regulatory framework and financial tools to scale them up! The #PEB HUB aspires to become a community powered by PEB professionals and is meant to support and empower designers in transitioning towards a European building stock that produces more final energy than it uses⚡🪟🌿 Get inspired! MRIAI met with Bendt Madsen, Housing Europe President, and Sorcha Edwards, Housing Europe Secretary General, to explore how we can achieve #affordable and #quality housing in #Europe. In the area of housing we share common issues and ambitions, despite #cultural differences and approaches among countries. Addressing this #crisis requires us to put an end to the search for short-term economic gains and the downward spiral of standardisation. We urgently need to adopt an attitude that favours common good and quality of life and puts people and nature at the core of housing and urban developments. Conference on #affordable #housing – addressing the European housing crisis on 24 March The event will be hosted by the European Parliament and jointly opened by Irene Tinagli, Chair of the European Parliament Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union, and Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, reflecting the strong inter-institutional cooperation on this issue. The high-level opening session will be followed by debates with Members of the European Parliament and interactive panel discussions with stakeholders. #Sustainable construction in Europe The DGNB German Sustainable Building Council Annual Congress took place on February. In keynote speeches and panel discussions, developments on diverse aspects of #sustainable construction were discussed. #Sustainability remains a widely used buzzword, even in the construction and real estate industries. Looking at the presentations at relevant trade fairs, one might think the industry is almost completely transformed. Dr. Christine Lemaitre discussed the current state of implementation in #Germany and #Europe and where challenges remain with Leon Beck, Chairman of the Board of Architects for Future Germany , Dr. Haris Piplas, Head of International, UIS at Drees & Sommer , and Ruth Schagemann, President of the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE). Create more affordable housing ACE President highlighted the widespread shortage of affordable housing across Europe. She also emphasized that, at the same time, there are many vacant properties in cities. The issue has now also reached the European Commission: Dan Jørgensen is the first European Commissioner to address housing and energy. Although #housing is the responsibility of the individual member states, the Commission can certainly exert influence here, particularly through the structuring of funding. Furthermore, solutions are also being discussed at the national level. Ruth Schagemann cited the example of #building #typeE , which is currently being discussed in #Germany.
