"The lack of knowledge and awareness about sepsis is literally costing lives," states Ilse Malfait, a sepsis survivor. "The results of the 2024 survey should be a wake-up call for all healthcare stakeholders!" Unknown and therefore underestimated? The fact is, 2 out of 3 Belgians have never heard of #sepsis. This was revealed in a survey of more than 2,000 citizens. ⏳ What you don't know, you can't recognise and treat in time. And reacting quickly is crucial when it comes to sepsis... Ilse, who is also the spokesperson for Sepsibel, chose the title for her book with good reason: "Every Hour Counts". 🙏 On #WorldSepsisDay, she repeats her message: we must raise more awareness about sepsis, among both the public and healthcare providers. Let's continue working together to strengthen our efforts in prevention, early diagnosis, detection, and treatment. Because when it comes to sepsis, every hour counts. #sepsisawareness #sepsisawarenessmonth #stopsepsissavelives European Sepsis Alliance Sciensano

❓ What do the 14 companies in this visual have in common? In addition to being strong organisations, they are all beMedTech Connect Partners. Before the summer holidays, we launched our brand-new partner programme beMedTech Connect. The goal? To give organisations other than "classic" medtech companies the chance to join our federation. Because bringing valuable medtech solutions to patients and healthcare providers requires not only strong companies that develop, manufacture, and distribute medical technology, but also organisations with other skills. Think of consultancy, process improvement, software, data processing, legal expertise, communication... 🤝 As a federation, we believe in the power of collaboration, in teamwork and co-creation as a lever for valuable innovation. Therefore, let us continue to collaborate to innovate! 𝗣.𝗦. Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce each of our beMedTech Connect Partners to you. #medtechmatters #beMedTechConnect

"At 100,000 euros per quality-adjusted life year gained, the cost of our hybrid care pathway for people with type 2 diabetes is still too high. We need to bring it down." These are the words of Dorien Vandormael, innovation manager at i-mens. We spoke with her and Stef Schots from Comarch Benelux about the about the benefits hybrid care offers for patients. About the relationship between digital support and human touch. About the importance of a data-driven approach. And about the challenges we must overcome together to implement hybrid care on a large scale. The first clinical trial for such a hybrid care pathway was recently completed. With financial support from FOD Volksgezondheid, Veiligheid van de Voedselketen en Leefmilieu, a follow-up study will now take place over a longer period and with more patients. The goal? To further fine-tune the care pathway, improving the positive impact on individual patients while reducing societal costs. 🤝 In addition to Comarch, i-mens is collaborating on this with Roche in Belgium & Luxembourg, nexuzhealth, Ascensia Diabetes Care, OMRON Healthcare EMEA, Z-plus, AZ Maria Middelares, AZ Sint-Vincentius Deinze, az groeninge, az Sint-Blasius, RZ Heilig Hart Tienen, Odisee, and Universiteit Gent. #medtechmatters #hybridcare #patientempowerment #diabetes #telemonitoring #medicaltechnology Diabetes Liga Belgian Diabetes Forum (BEDF) https://lnkd.in/e3cTZUdC

'As a citizen or patient, your health data can help save lives.' It is a message we are hearing more and more often. 🤔 But how exactly does this work? What does it mean to share your health data? How can your data make a difference for someone else? What exactly happens to your data? What is the difference between primary and secondary use of that data? Are there any risks associated with sharing your personal data? To address these and many other questions, Patient Expert Center, Vlaams Patiëntenplatform vzw, and Belgian Health Data Agency are organising a webinar for patients and citizens on: 👉cal Tuesday, 8th October (in French): https://lnkd.in/eKayW5WK 👉 Thursday, 10th October (in Dutch): https://lnkd.in/eM7MWG7V Our health data expert, Stefanie Devos, will also be sharing her knowledge and insights during the webinar. 🙏 Thank you to everyone helping to make this initiative possible. If we want to make better use of health data in a sustainable way, we must involve all stakeholders concerned, including citizens and patients. #healthdata #datasaveslives Katleen Janssens Stefan Gijssels

👂 The 27-year-old Wannes regained his life thanks to a cochlear implant. A few years ago, he became completely deaf due to a disease. The result? He barely went outside anymore. "Because I couldn't follow anything anyway." Thanks to the bilateral cochlear implant he had placed, he can hear again. It took some getting used to at first, but the implant opened up a new world for him. More and more people are in Wannes' situation. Over the past four years, the number of people in Belgium receiving a cochlear implant has increased by over 30%. ❓ Why is that? Certainly due to the improved reimbursement. (It's a nice example of how RIZIV improves the quality of life for citizens through reimbursement.) Other factors also play a role. For instance, audiologists in hearing centres have improved their knowledge, leading to quicker referrals when a conventional hearing aid is no longer sufficient. And older people are also more likely to take the step towards an implant. 🙏 We can still make progress. For example, a bilateral implant is not yet reimbursed for adults, even though it often makes a significant difference. But we are definitely on the right path. #cochlearimplant #medtechmatters #qualityoflife Jolien Desmet https://lnkd.in/eSFg8YCj

We all know someone like this: a quiet force who is worth their weight in gold. Someone who doesn't seek the spotlight but performs indispensable work. Right now, we are working with our members on a policy paper about such a quiet force in healthcare... 🤔 Who or what is this force? In vitro diagnostics, the powerful combination of medical technology (in vitro diagnostic tests) and the healthcare professionals who use them. In vitro diagnostics often receive less public attention than, for example, groundbreaking new medicines or futuristic technologies. However, their potential benefits are enormous, both for patients and society. IVDs serve as a 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲. With their help, healthcare teams can make informed decisions at every stage of care. 👉 This ensures that 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 consistently receives the best possible care 👉 It also ensures that, as a 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆, we use our resources as efficiently as possible. In our upcoming policy paper, we will illustrate this impact with some concrete examples and provide policy recommendations to better leverage the potential of IVDs. 👀 Are you a healthcare provider or clinical lab professional interested in learning more about our views and discussing our policy recommendations? Then be sure to reach out to us! #invitrodiagnostics #medtechmatters #diagnostics Lieselot De Vos
