We represent 44 independent national consumer organisations in Brussels and defend the interests of European consumers.
About us
The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) is the umbrella group in Brussels for 44 independent consumer organisations. Our main role is to represent them to the EU institutions and defend the interests of European consumers. Our daily work involves making sure the EU takes policy decisions that improve the lives of consumers. This covers a range of topics including competition, consumer rights, digital rights, energy, redress and enforcement, financial services, food, health, safety, sustainability and trade policy. Our acronym originates from our French name, ‘Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs’. We were founded in 1962 by consumer groups from six Member States of, what was then, the European Economic Community (EEC). Nowadays our members are from 26 EU Member States as well as Iceland, North Macedonia, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Our French member UFC-Que Choisir has published a new test revealing that 27 out of 60 detergents contain allergens that are not listed on the labels. 🧼This raises serious concerns about transparency for consumers. For consumers to make informed choices, there should be more clarity around the presence of fragrance allergens in detergents. 👉 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eXCYxWC7

Many consumers are still struggling to pay high monthly bills for heating ♨ , car fuel ⛽, and electricity ⚡ . At the same time, Europeans are also increasingly looking for sustainable alternatives. Bringing down up-front costs and running prices for electric cars, heat pumps and solar panels is key to lowering consumers’ bills and to increase their market uptake. The European Commission’s proposed Clean Industrial Deal is an opportunity for an industrial strategy that helps European consumers engage with the green transition by boosting the production and affordability of such technologies. In our new position paper, we call for demand-side measures to push the uptake of battery electric vehicles🚗, heat pumps ♨ and solar panels 🌞. Read the paper and 👇 and 👉 https://lnkd.in/eMkjG8UW
