How do we replace oil in our industries? The answer is here! The CBE JU-funded #PEFerence biorefinery has just received its first truck of organic feedstock: purified crop residues. This marks a significant step towards sustainable innovation in biorefining. The resulting bio-based material, PEF, offers a greener alternative, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 33% compared to traditional PET. How can we contribute to a more sustainable future through plastic upcycling? The CBE JU-funded Glaukos project’s research published in the Nature magazine explores an innovative method for upcycling polyamides by using chemical hydrolysis in combination with engineered Pseudomonas putida. This approach opens new possibilities for breaking down waste plastics into valuable compounds, promoting a circular economy. The CBE JU-funded BIORING project, alongside with SuperBark, hosted the workshop "Anticipatory LCA to Promote Informed Decision-making in Bio-based Product Development" last December. The workshop focused on the challenges of providing early feedback and guidance when Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) are low, and data is scarce.
