Yesterday, our regulatory specialist Lucija Rakočević gave an insightful interview to Alifia Bintang N. at Enlit Europe! She spoke about s innovative technologies and solutions to be used for decarbonisation of EU island grids in their energy transition process. 🌍 Clean Energy for EU Islands: Greece 🌞 The Clean energy for EU islands secretariat has released a new publication focusing on the challenges and solutions for clean energy transitions on EU islands. In Greece, the study highlights significant grid constraints and a high dependency on diesel generators. Innovative solutions such as hybrid renewable energy systems, grid upgrades, and energy storage solutions are proposed to overcome these challenges. In Corsica, France, aging infrastructure and high energy import costs are significant issues. The study highlights the need for grid upgrades, increased use of local renewable energy sources, and energy efficiency programs in France. 🌍 CE4EUI secretariat Joins Energy Communities Event on Cres Island Last week, the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat had the honor of participating in a joint event organised by the LIFE Programme-funded #ISLET project and the #ESIN annual meeting on the beautiful island of Cres, Croatia. The theme of this year’s event focused on energy communities and the crucial role of community engagement in enhancing the islands’ capacity and resilience during the energy transition. Community energy, through energy communities and cooperatives, is a vital tool for islands. It fosters local stakeholder engagement, supports a bottom-up approach to the energy transition, and enables the ownership and management of distributed energy generation and grid stability on islands.
