👩🏼🎓👨🏼🎓 At the Howest Brugge Station campus, our colleagues of MBG and VMA were honored to be part of the opening ceremony of the academic year. From now, more than 5.000 students and the HOWEST Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen staff will fully enjoy their brand-new, modern and sustainable site. It will surely be an inspiring environment for learning, working, and connecting with each other 🤩. MBG and VMA , both business units of our CFE Group, have been playing a key role in the design, construction and the future maintenance of the new campus. 🏗️ 🔌 The project encompassed the construction of a new building and the thorough renovation of two existing ones. The campus offers spacious and flexible classrooms, equipped with the latest technology and furniture, as well as ample natural light and ventilation. 💡 👷🏽👷🏻♂️👷♀️ We are immensely proud of all our #Heroes, whose dedication and hard work made this possible. #floodtimes It seems Yagi wants to prove it is for sure the ultimate goat (greatest of all times) as its aftermath proves deadlier and costlier than the storm itself. Yesterday both Hai Phong and Quang Ninh refused 100 billion VND aid bill from the national government and asked it to be directed to much poorer provinces in the North. A rather unique proof of what I earlier reported on : this country understands how to bundle its forces and carry together its burden. #QuangNinh has still not managed to restore electricity and power but hopes to do so tomorrow. To give a better idea : across the entire district of Quang Yen where our zones are situated approximately 230 medium voltage 22kV poles have been severely damaged and require urgent repair. Neighboring provinces have sent their emergency teams to help restore power soonest. #HaiPhong encountered in return its next challenge : yesterday floods have taken over the city at high tide and have been slowly disappearing over night. Attached the high tide chart of Hai Phong which our operational teams use to ensure as guidance to make our zones stay as dry as possible. I am very proud that the new infrastructure design we started working on in DEEP C Industrial Zones Vietnam based on green zones acting as water buffer and open drains offering extra emergency retention has proven itself : no flooding occurred at all in the zones adopting this new standard. Unfortunately there is only so much we can do : ultimately the rainfall and water saturation of the land have the biggest impact. The fact that yesterday #China #Hydropower announced a flood discharge, from 2:00 pm to 1:00 pm today, will not help. Discharge rate is foreseen to reach 250 m3/s which means that Red river water levels in the northern provinces may further rise. The attached picture of the Long Bien bridge in Hanoi yesterday at high tide tells me that there is not that much margin left for that rise. Let us hope that the crucial next two days we manage to keep control of the water levels. At least overnight there was a lot less rain. The past few days taught me a lot about the power of people and nature. Both are equally impressive and often underestimated. I can only hope that Yagi and its havoc may soon leave this country behind. And that there will come a time for some lessons learned that can bring more #resilience and insight in sustainable infrastructure. At DEEP C we claim we are #buildingthefuture. The differences in how we managed to alleviate the flood impact prove it is possible to build for that future taking in consideration catastrophic events #climatechange is bringing upon us.
