Steel is the go-to material for ferrous metal packaging, and for good reason. Its standout properties include durability, recyclability, and resistance to fire and corrosion, making it an excellent choice for sustainable packaging solutions 💡 While other ferrous metals like tin are available, it's crucial to stick to one type for manufacturing ❗ Mixing ferrous metals in packaging that predominantly uses steel can complicate the recycling process. When steel combines with other metals during reprocessing, it forms an alloy that is typically more brittle than the original material. This brittleness can degrade the quality of the recycled product 😧 By focusing on using only steel, we can maintain the integrity and quality of recycled packaging. #steelpackaging #metals #designforrecycling

Recent legislative proposals in Slovakia aimed at amending the existing Deposit Return System (DRS) have raised concerns within the recycling industry. These amendments, proposed by Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba, could potentially impact the system's effectiveness and its alignment with both Slovak and EU legislative standards. Since its launch in 2022, Slovakia's DRS has exemplified success, achieving over 90% collection rates for single-use beverage packaging in 2023, significantly surpassing EU targets ahead of schedule. This initiative has not only boosted recycling rates but also reduced environmental litter, setting a benchmark for similar initiatives across Europe. However, the proposed changes, which suggest an increase in state oversight, have alarmed key industry stakeholders, including EUROPEN, the Brewers of Europe, and Zero Waste Europe. These organisations have voiced their concerns through a joint letter, calling for the withdrawal of the draft amendments and advocating for a more collaborative approach to preserve the system's integrity and ensure its continued success. What do you think is essential for an efficient DRS system❓ For the latest updates and detailed insights into recycling legislation and practices, visit us at ReCoRe: https://lnkd.in/eC5-Yq7Y #RecyclingLegislation #Sustainability #europeanunion #circulareconomy

🇹🇼 Taiwan Ends Use of Single-Use Plastic Cups at Drink Shops As of Sunday, 1 September 2024, drink shops across Taiwan have stopped providing single-use plastic cups, following the implementation of the Ministry of Environment’s (MOENV) 2022 policy. Kinmen County was the last of Taiwan’s 22 cities and counties to enforce the ban. 💡 This nationwide policy was first introduced in Taipei in December 2022 and has been progressively adopted across the country. MOENV’s statistics from 2020 indicate that Taiwan used approximately 2.2 billion single-use plastic cups annually. With this new policy, it is expected to reduce the use of disposable plastic cups by about 790 million each year 💪 👏 #singleuseplastic #ban #policy #taiwan #drinkingcups

💡 🇪🇺 The European Commission has commenced legal proceedings against several EU member states for not meeting the established waste collection and recycling standards. The countries, including Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, and Sweden, have failed to achieve the 50 percent target for the preparation for reuse and recycling of municipal waste set for 2020. These member states have also not met the recycling goals for various packaging materials and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). #EuropeanCommission #laws #recycling #recyclingtargets

Starting 1 September 2024, South Australia is set to expand its ban on single-use plastics. The new regulations will include: • Fruit Bags • Thick Supermarket Bags • Single-Use Food Containers • Bread Tags These items must now be replaced with compostable or reusable alternatives, as we continue to foster a culture of sustainable practices. This initiative builds on previous bans that included plastic bowls, cotton buds, and pizza savers. Local businesses are stepping up by switching to compostable materials and promoting reusable options. This shift is part of a broader Australian movement to reduce plastic waste. 📄 For a detailed overview of nationwide efforts, see the link to the National Retail Association's summary (https://lnkd.in/dqBZYN4C) 🔗 Stay informed about packaging legislation and recycling systems by visiting ReCoRe: https://lnkd.in/eC5-Yq7Y #plasticpackaging #polymers #recycledplastic #sustainable

📢 Major Advancements in EPR Fee Reporting for Germany We are thrilled to announce a significant advancement in our Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees reporting within Germany. Traditionally, due to market sensitivity, detailed disclosures of EPR fees have been limited on our platform, ReCoRe. However, CIRCPACK has now compiled comprehensive estimates for both the overall German market and several individual Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs). These figures cover a range of material categories, including: • Glass • Aluminium • Ferrous metals • Paper & cardboard • Plastics • Composite beverage cartons • Other composite packaging • Other materials These average estimates are now applied in ReCoRe to calculate approximate costs across four standard packaging formats: rigid, flexible, composite, and refillable. 📩For more detailed information on EPR fees across countries, visit us at ReCoRe (https://lnkd.in/eC5-Yq7Y) or contact us directly. #glass #circulareconomy #aluminium #metalpackaging #plastic #pet

We are witnessing a significant shift in Japan's approach to sustainability. Starting on 1 July 2024, the Japanese government will require major manufacturers to meet mandatory plastic recycled content targets. This change, amending the Resource Effective Utilisation Promotion Act of 1991, moves from voluntary participation to stringent compliance, with companies now needing to establish and regularly report specific recycled content targets. This regulatory shift will have a profound impact on several key industries, especially in packaging. In 2022, Japan utilized a staggering 9.10 million tonnes of plastic, mainly in packaging and containers, highlighting both the urgent need for and the significant impact of these new regulations. 🔍 As Japan sets a new global benchmark, what opportunities do you foresee for businesses worldwide adapting to these sustainability standards? Could this initiative inspire other countries to implement similar measures? For deeper insights into global legislative changes and how they might affect your business, visit our platform, ReCoRe: https://lnkd.in/eC5-Yq7Y Let’s discuss in the comments below! #polymers #plasticpackaging #plasticrecycling #biodegradable #pet #polyethylene #polypropylene #sustainability #circulareconomy
