US PET Bottle Recycling Rates Reach Record Levels in 2023 👏 The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) reports that PET bottle recycling rates across the United States have hit unprecedented highs in 2023 🧠 Key findings include: ◽ The US PET bottle collection rate rose to 33%, up from 29% in 2022 ◽ Average recycled PET content in US bottles and jars increased to 16.2%, up from 13.2% in 2022 Factors contributing to this success: ◽ Improved kerbside collection ◽ Decreased weight of bottles available for recycling ◽ Implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in several states ◽ Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) in 10 states, accounting for over 40% of US PET bottle collection Despite 88% of US residents having access to PET bottle recycling, participation remains a challenge. Industry experts suggest that well-designed EPR and DRS programmes could significantly boost recycling rates, potentially reaching 82% for all recyclable materials 🤝 💡 #Recycling #PET #USA

#Circular #Economy - insights from London. 👇 👇 #1. The Consumer Goods Forum #SustainableRetailSummit in London: Driving collection action for #sustainable #packaging from retailer and brand owner perspective were key topics at this event. Together with my fellow panelists we discussed and shared best practices towards achieving a true circular economy for packaging. Special kudos to Bertrand SWIDERSKI from Carrefour - my highlight in the panel - coming with a full bag of sustainable packaging solutions on stage. 😊 #2: 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 Henkel Consumer Brands 𝐔𝐊 𝗥&𝗗 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 When travelling abroad, visiting waste sorting and recycling facilities is always part of my travel plans to get firsthand insights on current state of play of recycling on the ground. Big thanks to Louis Driver from CIRCPACK® for hosting us. It was great to see how Veolia is driving progress towards the circular economy in the UK. Collaboration is the cornerstone of enhancing packaging recyclability! 🤝 👏 We are immensely proud to have partnered with Essity to elevate the recyclability of their Tork packaging - see information on the Tork packaging below! https://lnkd.in/d7is3a7e! Understanding the sorting efficiency of packaging within operational sorting facilities and during reprocessing tested with technology approvals via recyclability evaluation protocols is crucial. This knowledge enables more informed design choices, enhancing performance throughout the recycling chain. 💡 Being a pioneer in this endeavour brings its own set of constraints, but together with RecyClass and suppliers, Essity overcame these challenges successfully. A prime example of best practice is designing packaging with a mono-material character. This ensures effective sorting and maximises the proportion of packaging weight that can be reprocessed into new products. Essity ’s collaboration with us at CIRCPACK® and RecyClass has successfully advanced their packaging recyclability! #collaboration #recycling

🌍 ➕ d'info : https://lnkd.in/exySNbMk

At the end of last year, DEFRA 🇬🇧 introduced a new Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) as part of the packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) scheme. As of the 21st January 2025, PackUK has been appointed as the scheme administrator to see it through. Key points about the RAM: ✅ Standardised approach to assessing the recyclability of packaging ✅ Encourages producers to design with recyclability in mind ✅ Supports the UK's commitment to delivering a circular economy ✅ Helps reduce the environmental impact of packaging waste This methodology is a crucial step in implementing the UK's pEPR scheme, encouraging businesses to take greater responsibility for the environmental impact of their products and packaging. 💡 The results of a RAM assessment can be explored through OPRL’s Recyclability Assessment Tool (RAT) which provides a traffic light system on the recyclability of the assessed packaging. These results will inform eco-modulation fees which will be applicable for 2026, based on packaging placed on the market in 2025. #ExtendedProducerResponsibility #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy #WasteReduction

Packaging Regulations in the US: What to Expect in 2025 Several US states are implementing significant changes to packaging regulations in 2025, following legislation agreed upon in 2023. These changes will impact restaurants, retail outlets, hotels, events, and state organisations. Key updates include: 🛍️ California: From 1 January, pre-checkout bags must be compostable or made from recycled paper. 🥡 Delaware: Starting 1 July, polystyrene foam containers for food and beverages will be prohibited in restaurants and foodservice establishments. ♻️ Illinois: Large events (3,500+ attendees) must provide recycling and composting bins from 1 January. Hotels face restrictions on single-use plastic bottles. 🍾 Maine: Bottle redemption centres can now sort containers by material type rather than brand, streamlining the recycling process. 🚫 Minnesota: Ban on intentionally added PFAS in 11 product categories, including carpets, cleaning products, and cosmetics, effective 1 January. These regulations aim to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability across various sectors. Businesses operating in these states should prepare for compliance with these new rules. 🤔 How is your organisation preparing for these upcoming changes? Share your strategies or concerns in the comments below! #legislation #unitedstates #EPR #packaging #recycling
