Very productive meeting of the COB "Group A" in Munich. The "Group A" of the COB is integrated by Bureaux, Guarantee Funds, Compensation Bodies and Information Centres from: Germany Italy France UK Poland Spain (OFESAUTO and Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros ) We are more than 70% of the motor insurance policies of the EU, plus UK.

Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Working Group had its first meeting at CoB premises on last Friday. It was a very fruitful meeting. Thanks to our friends from COB for their very warm hosting of the event. Also thanks Nick Robbins for your effective chairing of the meeting.

From 1st January 2025, all countries within the Green Card circulation area must accept either the paper or electronic PDF format versions of IMIC as proof of insurance. Border security and legal authorities across the Green Card area are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with the updated provisions. https://lnkd.in/eaMxKP6k

Milestone in COB’s history: the year 2000! The adoption of the fourth EU Motor Insurance Directive in 2000 radically impacted the COB system 📃. This led to the creation of a ‘two-pillar’ system, encompassing both the Green Card pillar and the Protection of Visitors pillar. Einfach ins Auto steigen und gen Süden fahren – so machen es viele Deutsche in ihrem Urlaub. Um ihren Versicherungsschutz müssen sie sich bei einem Autounfall im Urlaubsland oder auf dem Weg dahin keine Sorgen machen. Dank des Grüne-Karte-Systems gilt die eigene Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung auch im Ausland. Die Geburtsstunde für das System schlug 1949. Damals taten sich 14 europäische Staaten zusammen und gründeten das Council of Bureaux (COB) – die Dachorganisation der nationalen Grüne-Karte-Büros. Ihre Vision: Sie wollten den grenzüberschreitenden Straßenverkehr erleichtern und Unfallopfern schnell und problemlos zu Entschädigungen verhelfen. Dafür sollten die Grenzversicherungen durch ein einheitliches Dokument ersetzt werden, das in allen teilnehmenden Ländern als Nachweis einer Kfz-Versicherung akzeptiert würde. 1953 ging das Grüne-Karte-System schließlich in insgesamt 19 Ländern an den Start, darunter war auch die Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Mittlerweile ist die Grüne Karte in 48 Ländern gültig, nicht nur in Europa, sondern auch in Teilen Nordafrikas und im Nahen Osten. Das System umfasst rund 1.500 Versicherer und bis zu 500 Millionen Fahrzeuge. Die COB-Mitglieder bearbeiten rund 375.000 grenzüberschreitende Unfälle pro Jahr – mehr als 1.000 täglich. „Was vor 75 Jahren als Idee begann, sichert heute unzählige Reisen und Transporte und hat Millionen Menschen nach grenzüberschreitenden Verkehrsunfällen geholfen“, sagt Sandra Schwarz, Präsidentin des COB. #GrüneKarte
