👕 The second-hand clothing sector is paving the way for a more sustainable future by driving clothing reuse, extending garment lifespans and reducing the demand for new textiles. A thriving second-hand clothing sector can accelerate our transition to a more circular textile industry, while also delivering significant socioeconomic benefits globally. A new report written by Oxford Economics quantifies the socioeconomic benefits of this sector in the EU, the UK and three selected African countries. Join the online report launch on 9 October at 10:00–11:30 CEST to explore how the second-hand clothing trade operates and gain new insights into its value chain, socioeconomic impacts and the policies shaping the industry. ➡ https://bit.ly/3ZWngEV

Lithium-ion batteries 🔋 are pretty much everywhere these days: mobile phones, computers, scooters, bicycles, motorbikes and vehicles. And despite containing those very useful elements classified as #CriticalRawMaterials, most of them end up in landfills. Not good. 😐 AIMPLAS · Technological Institute of Plastics METALLON project aims to improve the process of reusing and recycling ♻ complex waste such as lithium-ion batteries in order to recondition them and give them a second life. If this is not possible, the project wants to optimise recycling and recovery processes to extract and recover the #lithium and other high-value metals and minerals they contain. How can regional resources drive Europe's #bioeconomy? 🌱 The #HorizonEurope SCALE-UP project is helping stakeholders to develop #sustainable and #circular bioeconomy projects in six regions: 🌲 Northern Sweden: transforming forestry residues into #bioenergy and high-value chemicals 🍏 Mazovia, Poland: converting apple side-streams into fertilizers, wood products, and functional food ingredients 🌾 Arc Atlantic, France: utilising straw and fibre crops, like flax and hemp, for paper, textiles, and construction materials 🍽 Upper Austria: turning food processing by-products into #biogas, chemicals, and functional food ingredients 🌿 Strumica, North Macedonia: composting agricultural residues such as crop residues and manure 🌱 Andalusia, Spain: processing olive residues into high-value chemicals and fertilizers The project is also offering 21 free online bioeconomy training sessions, multilingual training materials and events to strengthen multi-actor partnerships. #Polymers! They are everywhere and compose most of our #Plastics goods. Recycling polymers ♻ presents multiple challenges with sorting and effectively separating the different components as to maintain their unique qualities. This is the prerequisite for high performing #Recyclates that can serve the industry in reaching #Circularity while maintaining their quality standards. PRIMUS Project EU is a research project involving a consortium of 12 partners including technological centres, universities and industries, with the aim to develop new polymer #recycling #technologies. So far the project has developed four prototypes for use in the automotive and appliance sectors, proving that it is possible to integrate high-performing recycled polymers into industrial applications without compromising safety or quality.
