The voice of educators worldwide
About us
Education International (EI) is a global union federation that represents organisations of teachers and other education employees. We are the world’s largest, most representative organisation of teachers unions, with over 32 million trade union members representing around 400 organisations in 170 countries and territories across the globe. We promote the principle that quality, publicly-funded education should be accessible to every student in every country. We promote and represent the interests of teachers and other education employees on the international level. We assist the development of independent democratic organisations to represent teachers and other education employees, and seek to foster solidarity and cooperation between them. We support the development of qualifications of teachers, and the recognition of teachers as professionals. We support democracy, peace, social justice, and human rights, including trade union rights and the right to education. We advocate for equity in society, and to combat racism and xenophobia. We challenge discrimination on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, and racial or ethnic origin. We work with other global union federations and other friendly organisations to promote and achieve solidarity. We promote quality education, the interests of teachers and other education employees, and equity in society.

📢 Call for proposals: Mapping donor practices and perspectives on supporting teacher salary payment in emergency contexts. Too often teachers working in emergency settings receive inadequate salaries, are paid late, or are not paid in full. This unacceptable situation occurs for a variety of reasons, depending on the specific context. Education International is commissioning a study mapping and analysing situations involving international donor support to the payment of teachers (or other civil servants) in crisis contexts. The aim is to document and analyse international donors’ practices and perspectives, to identify the principles and conditions under which international donors may engage with an international funding mechanism for teacher salaries in crisis contexts. 🗨️ "Higher education is a fundamental human right, essential for societal progress. Therefore, it is the duty of the State to ensure robust funding, enabling the sector to fulfill its public mission," states Jo Grady, General Secretary of the University and College Union (UCU). As the UK nears a pivotal July 4th election, Grady discusses the dire state of higher education funding and the urgent need for increased state investment in public education, in line with the United Nations High-Level Panel on the Teaching Profession's recommendations. Join us to advocate for these changes. Let's unite to #GoPublic and #FundEducation to #ReclaimHigherEd!

🌍 The G7 and public investment: building an education alliance for Peace ☮️ Today, our member organisation, FLC-CGIL, hosted a crucial webinar with education unions from G7 countries, highlighting the importance of education in promoting peace and social justice. Despite being excluded from the #G7 discussions in Italy, unions emphasised that education for peace can change the world. EI member organisations from G7 countries stressed the need for meaningful dialogue and public investment in education. There can be no peace without social justice, and public education is the cornerstone of a just and equitable society. Let's ensure that teachers and their organisations have a voice in shaping education policies. Together, we can make a difference. Let's #GoPublic ✏️ #FundEducation 🗣️ More education, fewer weapons! #G7summit #Italy
