✨ Multi-energy taskforce kick-off! ✨ Today, we at Elia and Fluxys held a successful kick-off session for the development of our ten-year national development plan, in line with the new legal framework established by the May 2024 Royal Decree. The framework outlines how we, Belgium’s electricity transmission system operator, and Fluxys hydrogen will collaborate to create common energy scenarios, with the first iteration covering 2028-2037. We held discussions with federal and regional stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss the process and timeline for developing these scenarios. We’d like to extend a big thanks to all of them, as their valuable input and information about the challenges they are facing are crucial for shaping our future energy system!

  • Let's take a deep dive in our annual results. In a challenging environment, we continue to build a reliable, sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. Our key figures show the impact of our efforts:   📈 €4.8 billion invested in the network to accelerate the energy transition 💡 99.9% network reliability in Belgium, 99.8% in Germany 💰 €9.7 billion of liquidity secured to support strategic expansion  📊 €421.3 million of net income, 8.37% return on equity, delivering a strong shareholder value  🚀 2025 outlook: expected net profit between €490 - €540 million  🏗 €31.6 billion total investment planned for 2024-2028   👫 744 new and amazing colleagues on board CEO Bernard Gustin sums it up perfectly: “Despite the highly challenging context, 2024 was a very strong year for Elia Group, as solid financial results were delivered in both Belgium and Germany. Once again, we successfully executed key projects which are critical for the energy transition while ensuring that the lights stayed on around the clock.”   Together we are building a stronger, greener and more resilient energy future.  👉 https://lnkd.in/eCNgtnjz

  • Elia Group is pleased to announce a €2.2 billion equity package, which includes a secured agreement to raise 850 million euros through a private placement.    The private placement – or PIPE – involves ATLAS Infrastructure together with The Future Fund LLCBlackRockCPP Investments | Investissements RPC Board and Elia Group’s reference shareholder, PUBLI-T/NextGrid holding.   The commitment of these high-quality investors shows that they have confidence in our vision, our equity story, and our long-term growth potential.   Looking at the bigger picture, Elia Group’s total equity needs stand at €4 to 4.5 billion. With €2.2 billion already expected to be secured, we’ll still need around 2 billion between 2026 and 2028. The good news is that we have a solid funding plan in place leading up to 2028 that could cover even more than our equity need.   We are convinced that our diverse funding toolkit will provide a clear message to the financial markets and remove the current overhang.  More details can be find in the press release: https://lnkd.in/eBhyq5by

☀️ It’s been sunnier than usual in Belgium over the past couple of days - as reflected in our energy mix!   ⚡ The image below is a snapshot of Belgium’s electricity mix at 1pm today. It shows that solar production reached a high of 6 GW – making up half of our country’s electricity mix.   🕶️ We experienced similar levels of solar production in April last year, demonstrating how much sun Belgium has been benefitting from recently.   💡 Whilst the sun has been shining, temperatures across the country have remained quite low. This means households and businesses are using up more energy to keep warm, so electricity prices haven’t been affected by the rise in solar production.   #renewables #greenelectricity #electricitygrid #grid #energytransition #netzero #balance #consumption #production #solar #wind #PV

  • 🏝️ At the request of Elia 's Audit Committee, KPMG is examining the cost estimates and price developments linked to the Belgian Princess Elisabeth Island. In an interim report, KPMG identifies various factors that explain the difference between the initial cost estimates in 2021 and the current cost assessment for the island. In addition to some design changes, the increase in the budget has primarily been caused by market changes. As grid operator Elia has already indicated, KPMG’s analysis also notes that the price of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) infrastructure has significantly increased.   Due to this unprecedented price increase, Elia recently announced that it would postpone the decision relating to the HVDC contracts. As the project is of great strategic importance for Belgium and will be crucial for the country’s electricity supply over the coming decades, Elia is aiming to keep all options open by delaying this decision. Elia is calling for a calm debate to be held about this and is ready to fully cooperate with the involved parties to weigh up different concepts and implement appropriate accompanying measures. 👉 Read the press release: https://shorturl.at/JbaEd
