Highlight of the week! 🎯 Proudly co-organising the Expert Consultation on Eradicating Xenophobia in #Migration with UN Committees on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UN CERD) and Migrant Workers (UN CMW). These critical dialogues are laying the groundwork for an upcoming Joint General Comment – a formal 📜 UN recommendation urging countries to step up and implement stronger policies to combat xenophobia. 📌 Our own contribution calls for centring a systemic analysis of race, grounded in #decolonial and intersectional principles, in migration policies. ⏩ https://lnkd.in/eNTFHYAx A special thank you to 🙏🏾 MEP RIMA HASSAN for her powerful keynote, calling out the dangerous rise of (institutional) #Islamophobia across Europe and calling for a united, decolonial, and anti-racist approach to migration governance. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our co-organisers 🤝 Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) & Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The voice of anti-racism in Europe
About us
ENAR is the only pan-European anti-racism network that combines advocacy for racial equality and facilitating cooperation among civil society anti-racism actors in Europe. The organisation was set up in 1998 by grassroots activists on a mission to achieve legal changes at European level and make decisive progress towards racial equality in all EU Member States. Since then, ENAR has grown and achieved a great deal. Our mission is to achieve full equality, solidarity and well-being for all in Europe. We want to allow all members of society, whatever their skin colour, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, disability, age or sexual orientation, to participate and be included in society. Our take on this? We combat racism and discrimination based on colour, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, religion, culture, language or legal status. We envision a vibrant and inclusive society and economy that embrace equality and diversity and the benefits of a racism-free Europe.

Our civic space remains a litmus test for #democracy, and Europe is currently failing it. 🛑 This is just one of the alarming trends our Policy Advisor on Migration Emmanuel Achiri, PhD called out at the recent Migration Policy Group's conference on structural racism in the EU. ⚠️ As previously unheard communities speak up – only to be again #silenced through defunding, undermining, and even smear campaigns against racial justice activists – it’s clear that Europe has yet to confront the deep roots of #colonialism, white supremacy and the power imbalances it sustains. ⚠️ Europe's reluctance to confront systemic #racism is evident elsewhere too. By fixating on individual cases and sidestepping its colonial past, the EU keeps reproducing discrimination within its own initiatives. Thank you 🙏🏽 Jone Elizondo- Urrestarazu (PhD), Equinet, European Network of Equality Bodies, Romanita Iordache, and Cemil Yilmaz for this enlightening conversation! #AntiRacism #CivicSpace #Europe

In a time where harmful #narratives misrepresent racialised communities, we need the tools to set the record straight. 📢 For many in our network, sharing powerful messages is a priority. But as anti-racism work faces severe underfunding, smaller collectives often lack resources for effective communications. To support them, we brought in Yusuf Hassan from Robin Hood Communications to equip activists in our network – whether they work on communications or not – with essential media literacy skills for combating negative portrayals and redefining narratives. A huge thank you 🙏🏽 to everyone who contributed to this space. We’re excited to see how each of you bring these tools into your own work! #Communications #Network #Training #RacialJustice #AntiRacism #Media #Narrative

Narrow Western-centric ideas about 'ideal' investments continue to dominate the 💶 European investment sector, harming everyone. The cost, evident in the growing economic disparities and the degradation of our climate, is too high. We must urgently #decolonise financial and economic sectors, building a ⚖️ system that works for all. 📖 In our latest report, we explore the intersection of white supremacy, colonialism, and the contemporary racial wealth gap in Europe 📥 https://lnkd.in/gBVnSKTP. #WhiteSupremacy #Colonialism #WealthGap #AntiRacism

More than half of #Muslims in Europe face ⚠️ discrimination in their job search, forcing them to settle for positions they are overqualified for. New data from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights confirms what we already know: Islamophobia in Europe is 📈 soaring. 🟣 Half of Muslims recently experienced racism. 🟣 Over 50% encounter job search discrimination – the number is even higher among women wearing headscarves. 🟣 Children face bullying in schools. 🟣 Prejudice also impacts access to housing and other key areas of life. With the relentless dehumanising anti-Muslim rhetoric, fuelled by the ongoing violence in #Palestine and beyond, these alarming trends show no signs of slowing down. ✍️ Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eESfwnXs The Guardian #Islamophobia #racism #EU

🚨 Now more than ever, we need a brave coalition of MEPs to drive real progress on equality and racial justice within the European Parliament. Before the ✅ official vote to re-establish the Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup takes place in December, MEPs have to show strong interest within their own political groups – a process that is happening right now. 📣 In September, over 40 human rights and equality organisations called on MEPs to defend equality by ensuring ARDI continues its critical work ⏩ https://lnkd.in/eGmg5jBg. #EU #AntiRacism #ARDI Jelena Jovanovic ILGA-Europe Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) Human Rights Watch EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network Equinox: Racial Justice Initiative European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network

Are colonial histories forgotten – or are they deliberately obscured, misrepresented, and minimised? When we lack clear language to discuss these histories, we also lack the very foundation to address their continued impact. 📥 We attempt to bridge this gap in our latest report, Europe's Original Sin: White Supremacy, Colonialism, and Contemporary Racial Wealth Gap. Last week, we proudly joined our members in celebrating #JewishNewYear with the message of 🕊️ resistance, solidarity, and a call to end the escalating violence in #Gaza. The day also marked the launch of the network of European Jews for Palestine. 🫱🏻🫲🏽 This initiative, supported by our members TSEDEK!, De-Colonizer, and Another Jewish Voice, stands as a testament that another world is possible – one where communities stand united against systems that seek to divide us. Our Policy & Advocacy Coordinator, Julie Pascoët, stressed how our freedom of speech and assembly are under attack. Racist tropes continue to be weaponised to label communities as 'dangerous,' silencing voices of solidarity, eroding our civic space, and threatening our collective fight. Let this initiative be the much-needed step toward reclaiming that space. Mounir SATOURI The Left in the European Parliament The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament
