✨ Gulf of Guinea Highlights – March 2025 ✨ 🇬🇭 Women in Maritime Security Conference – Accra, Ghana Accra, 13-14 March: EnMAR organised the second conference on Women in Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea, bringing together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss the role of women in maritime security. The event featured over 120 high school girls and female students, showcasing inspiring women leaders and emphasizing the importance of gender diversity in enhancing maritime safety, security, and cooperation. #FollowTheWave! Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/d6MS2Dmh EnMAR - Enhanced Maritime Action in the Gulf of Guinea 🇨🇮 SCOPE Africa – Strategic Meeting in Côte d'Ivoire The SCOPE Africa project team is currently meeting with partners to present and discuss the project, which aims to improve the safety and security of 10 strategic ports in West and Central Africa, fostering regional trade and economic growth. ⛴️ In February, the team visited Cameroon to engage with the EU Delegation and introduce the project to the ports of Douala and Kribi. In March, they met key stakeholders in Côte d'Ivoire, including the Port of Abidjan, the Maritime and Ports Administration, and the regional academy (ARSTM). 🇨🇻 SEACOP Mentoring & Assessment in Cabo Verde Port of Mindelo, São Vicente, 10-14 March: SEACOP VI led a key mentoring and assessment activity with Maritime Intelligence and Rummage Teams from Cabo Verde. 16 officers from various law enforcement agencies, including 4 women, participated in intensive hands-on training focused on enhancing vessel targeting, detection, and inspection techniques. The goal? Strengthening operational and analytical capacities, improving inter-agency collaboration, and fighting maritime drug trafficking in the region. 🚢⚖️ Want to know more? Follow the link: https://lnkd.in/dnxrdHCY 🇨🇲 SAFE SEAS IMO Visit to Cameroon – 16-24 March From 16-24 March, the IMO’s component of the new SAFE SEAS FOR AFRICA project conducted an inception phase visit to the Interregional Coordination Centre (ICC) in Yaoundé and met with the Cameroon Chief of Naval Staff in Douala to discuss upcoming support. They also visited the Zone D MMCC in Douala, where they were briefed by Commander CV Sylvestre Fonkuah about a piracy incident that occurred on 17 March in the Bitu River. The Panamanian-flagged vessel TV BITU RIVER was boarded by suspected pirates, shots were fired, hostages were taken, and the vessel is now in Douala while the case is still under investigation. 🏴☠️ International Maritime Organization 💪 Together, these initiatives contribute to a safer and more resilient maritime environment in the Gulf of Guinea! #maritimesecurityhighlightsofthemonth European External Action Service Expertise France
