🤝 It’s not "OR", but "AND" – EU biorefineries produce fuel, feed and food. Despite common misconceptions, EU ethanol biorefineries play a crucial role in boosting Europe’s food and feed supply – all while providing low-carbon fuel. ePURE is the voice of the European ethanol industry
About us
Established in 2010, the European renewable ethanol association (ePURE) represents the interests of European renewable ethanol producers by promoting the beneficial uses of ethanol in Europe. Based in Brussels, ePURE represents 39 member companies, with 43 production plants in 16 EU member states, accounting for about 85% of the installed renewable ethanol capacity in Europe. Our mission is to promote the use of renewable ethanol in Europe by contributing in a constructive and pro-active manner to the development and implementation of EU policies and legislation that benefits both our industry and society. We pursue this by providing expert advice and input to the EU Institutions, Member State Governments, Brussels-based stakeholders and wider society. Ethanol is an important link in the chain for the transition to a European bioeconomy whereby resources are processed and used more efficiently. Using biomass as a sustainable renewable resource is key to replacing carbon fossil sources in the manufacture of chemicals, materials and fuels. ✅ In 2023, renewable ethanol biorefineries have already saved more than 79% of greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels — a figure that only rises year on year. Meet Renzo de Roose, Plant Manager in a renewable ethanol biorefinery, as he explains how biorefineries can help reduce transportation emissions today:

🌾 What’s next for European farmers? With grain prices continuing to fall — by 28% in the first quarter of 2024 according to Eurostat — farmers' livelihoods and the vitality of our rural economy are at risk, with many reconsidering their future in agriculture. European biorefineries can be an important ally and source of income for farmers and help strengthen the EU's rural economy. Find out how 👇 https://lnkd.in/dDsFHBAf

Joint statement: An early revision of CO2 emission standards regulations should be driven by technology openness ePURE is one of several associations in the Network for Sustainable Mobility that have signed a joint statement calling for a revision of the CO2 standards regulations for vehicles in a way that recognises the necessity of a technology open approach, including the contribution of sustainable, renewable fuels (biofuels, e-fuels and more in general, fuels compliant with the Renewable Energy Directive), towards OEM’s CO2 reduction targets.

✨ A better way to drive EU transport de-fossilisation 🚗 As the EU enters its next political phase – with a new European Commission and Parliament considering whether to tweak certain Green Deal policies – the time is right to rethink its approach to reducing transport emissions and give more of a role to sustainable liquid fuels such as renewable ethanol. 📰 Read our statement: https://lnkd.in/eqKAkADA

🏢 EU decarbonisation vs. competitiveness: can we find common ground? Just weeks ago, Mario Draghi presented three priorities from his #CompetitivenessReport to the European Commission: fostering innovation, aligning decarbonisation with competitiveness, and enhancing Europe’s autonomy in the face of global challenges. The verdict? Urgent reforms are needed if we want to boost our competitiveness, drive innovation and achieve our renewable energy targets. ✅ EU ethanol biorefineries can be a key part of the solution and help bring this vision to life. 🚗 The race to zero emissions is on, but we still have a long way to go. As the EU's zero emissions deadline approaches, the pressure to reduce transport emissions has never been higher. With electric vehicles still out of reach for many and petrol and hybrid cars still accounting for 70% of the market (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA)), renewable ethanol remains a key player in Europe’s path to decarbonisation. 🔮 The future of fuels may be uncertain, but low-carbon solutions like ethanol can help us meet our targets on time: https://lnkd.in/dDsFHBAf

I was surprised to discover that the use of #renewableenergy in road transport —primarily #biofuels— in #Spain is significantly lower than in #Poland, even though Poland has a population that is 10 million less than Spain...it seems Spain has some catching up to do regarding energy taxation! https://lnkd.in/eEErGwiz Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico @EP_Industry @DG_CLIMA #biocarburantes
