Dear colleagues and members of the Anaesthesiology community, On this #WorldAnaesthesiaDay, we come together to celebrate the remarkable journey that began with Dr Morton's first public demonstration of anaesthesia. The courage and innovation paved the way for a revolution in medicine that continues to save lives and relieve suffering worldwide. Today, as the President of #ESAIC, I am proud to stand with you in honouring the legacy of modern anaesthesia. Over the years, we have refined the art of perioperative medicine, intensive care and emergency medicine and embraced advancements in technology, safety, and sustainability. The work you all do - whether in operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency departments, or research labs - is a testimony to our dedication to improving patient outcomes, reducing harm, and advancing the standards of care. This year, as we face global challenges, we are reminded of our profession's resilience. We continue to innovate, adapt, and push the boundaries of what is possible in the care of our patients. With the ongoing support of the global community, ESAIC remains committed to leading the way, ensuring the highest levels of safety and excellence in anaesthesiology and intensive care. Let us honour the past while looking boldly to the future. Together, we will continue to build on the foundation laid by our predecessors and shape the future of anaesthesia for future generations. Thank you for your tireless dedication and commitment. Happy World Anaesthesia Day! Yours, Wolfgang Buhre #anaesthesiology
