📢 In this post, we extend our heartfelt BIG THANKS to all the speakers and participants in the recent ESNO webinar 24 October, on #vaccination with an emphasys on #Influenza. This unique session explored the evolving role of #nurses in the vaccination field, under the theme Expanding Professional Expertise: "The Transformative Impact of Vaccination in Healthcare through Programmatic Inclusion and Competency Building". Our distinguished lineup included George Kassianos CBE from European Scientific Working group on Influenza (ESWI), who highlighted the need to increase the number of nursing professionals in this domain, urging regulators and management to take action. Ber Oomen addressed the importance of #education and called on nurse professionals to make their voices heard. He also introduced the development of a #NurseCurriculum on Vaccination and launched ESNO’s new #videos on the technical aspects of vaccination administration. We were also privileged to have a powerful intervention from Rebecca Moore the perspective of #WomensHealth, shedding light on often-overlooked aspects related to women’s roles in vaccination. During the participant session, Anne Lekeux from Nurse Educators FINE Europe contributed valuable insights, emphasizing that only minimal time is currently devoted to microbiology and vaccination in education. Finally, Eva Wallace provided a unique perspective from expertise in #BladderCatheterisation from the European Association of Urology Nurses (EAUN), discussing the benefits of vaccination within her specialty. We extend special appreciation to Paul Walsh for his role as #moderator and to Joris van Vugt from Viatris for supporting the webinar and the of the educational video through their education grant. In the next weeks, a full video will be created and social media activation to amplify the message of the speakers and their message, following a full size report with recomendations. 📢 Stay tuned on the ESNO activies in the European health eco-system related to #Vaccination and relation to #AntiMicrobialResistance and #InfectionPreventionControl. #Caring4Nurses European Commission Andras Kulja MD Dolors Montserrat Vaccines Europe Sandra Evans Coalition for Life Course Immunisation Vaccines Today Mission Board on Vaccination in Europe Adriano Friganović Alessandro Stievano

Well addressed and highly relevant in the quest of nurse retention, recruitment and sustainability.
Thank you to the Ministry of Health of Italy for last week's discussions on regulation. This year the National Nursing Regulator of Italy (FNOPI) held a international conference on nursing regulation. I had the honor to speak but most importantly the opportunity to connect with regulators from across our WHO European Region and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing regulation. Bottom line: 👉 Regulators are there to protect our patients and communities by ensuring quality fit-for-purpose nurses 👉 Regulators are a critical source of important and ideally up to date information about our nurses (where and when they work, who they are) 👉 Regulators rely on a network of stakeholders to ensure that the standards for nursing are developed, implemented and updated to secure this fit-for-purpose nursing workforce 👉 Nurses benefit from regulation being in place as long as regulation is flexible and accurately understands the constantly emerging and new demands on nurses (supervising nursing assistants, mentoring the next generation of nurses, managing increasingly complex patient care with sometimes difficult nurse staffing conditions, their roles in multidisciplinary teams, working in a range of existing and new settings, adjusting services to and with digital health tools and keeping pace with changing models of care) I look forward to keeping close to this network and welcome regulators like FNOPI, the European Nursing Council and our new Collaborating Centre for Regulation Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) to advance regulation in our region. 📝 Only "Four days to go for the ESNO webinar on Vaccination" Nurses are at more in the centre vaccination programs and projects, but let's be realistic: expecting them to carry the full weight of responsibility alone is unrealistic and unfair. Last week, a great series of events took place in the European Parliament, with #EUFlueDay highlighting the critical importance of vaccination. Now, we’re continuing that conversation in our upcoming ESNO webinar—an ideal extention, to explore how nurses’ roles in vaccination must evolve with the support of the entire interprofessional health domain. From policy officers to administrators, from doctors to epidemiologists—vaccination is everyone’s job. Nurses need recognition, support, and equal engagement across the board. 📢 Join us as we dive into these essential conversations and move beyond expectations, toward building stronger, collaborative health teams. 🚀 It’s time we talk about what nurses really need—support, recognition, and equal engagement across the entire interprofessional health domain. From policy officers to administrators, from doctors to epidemiologists—vaccination is everyone's job. Join us at ESNO’s webinar where we’ll delve into the evolving roles of nurses in vaccination and why it’s time to break the silos. Let’s move beyond expectations and start building stronger, collaborative health teams.
