Today, on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we proudly join forces with EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network, ATD Fourth World, and 12 other civil society organizations, alongside MEPs Marie Toussaint and Pasquale Tridico, to advocate for the renewal of the Parliamentary Intergroup on Fighting Against Poverty. We urge political leaders in the European Parliament to: 1. Commit to supporting the Intergroup on Fighting Against Poverty. Learn more here: https://shorturl.at/bbWEI 2. Ensure that this crucial Intergroup is included in your political groups' lists by October 24th, and that it is approved during the Conference of the Presidency on December 16th. 3. Promote cooperation across political groups to secure key intergroups that intersect with the fight against poverty, including Just Transition, Child Rights, and LGBTQI+ Intergroups. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Greek member, Apostoli, and especially Vassi Leontari and Alvaro Vaitsis, who last week hosted our Migration Network Meeting. Eurodiaconia members were welcomed by Kostis Dimtsas, General Manager of Aposotli NGO, then took part in a Capacity Building workshop on the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum led by Torsten Moritz of CCME Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe Later, members shared their good practices, discussed their challenges, and rasied their main issues for policy development. Attendees also visited Apostoli's “Lela Karagianni” service; which although is primarily a Children’s Creative Centre, also provides counselling and non-formal education to parents, adult, and youth. Finally, we would also like to thank all of our contributors to the sessions. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Asociación Nueva Vida (ANV), and especially Julio David García Justamante, who earlier this week hosted our Joint Employment and Extreme Destitution Network Meeting in Santander, Spain.  Across the two days, Eurodiaconia members exchanged best practices, discussed their challenges, and lent their insights to policy development. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit local local projects founded by Nueva Vida such as NUVITEX – a social enterprise which produces clothing and other textiles and a housing service in Renedo which provides accommodation to people who have experienced homelessness or have left prison.  We would also like to thank all of our contributors to the sessions. Eurodiaconia, along with our Finnish member Diakonissalaitos, are among 50+ Civil Society Organisations to have jointly expressed our shock and dismay over the downgrading of the Equality portfolio compared to the previous mandate. We wish to thank European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network for initiating the open letter which calls on the new #EuropeanCommission to make #equality, #socialjustice and #humanrights top priorities in its next mandate.
