[PRESS RELEASE] #CleanIndustrialDeal: a positive step towards electrification, but who will implement it? Brussels, 26 February 2025 – EuropeOn - The European Electrical Contractors Association welcomes the Clean Industrial Deal’s commitment to #electrification with a 32% electrification KPI by 2030 and to #skills development. However, the plan overlooks workforce shortages, failing to ensure that Europe has enough qualified professionals to install and integrate #cleantech necessary for the electrification, #decarbonisation and #competitiveness of industries and companies in Europe. Key takeaways: 🟢 Including a clear 32% electrification KPI by 2030 (against 21.3% currently) is a strong move in the right direction. Along with the proposed actions on #grids, taxation and #affordability, this KPI provides companies with more confidence to invest in their assets and workforce. 🟠 While the Clean Industrial Deal soundly recognises the need to address skills shortages by including a dedicated pillar, it fails to identify the root problem: #workforce shortages. As explained in EuropeOn’s Manifesto(1), without enough workers, #upskilling and #reskilling efforts won’t be enough to implement the provisions included in the Clean Industrial Deal. Quote: "#Electricians are essential to deploy clean technologies, yet at least 16 European countries(2) already face shortages of these key professionals. The same is true with nurses, for which the European Commission recently announced a specific action(3). We call for a similar initiative to support the electrical sector and secure the success of the Clean Industrial Deal" said Julie Beaufils, EuropeOn Secretary General. 🔹 🔹 🔹 Sources: - Clean Industrial Deal: https://lnkd.in/ep__BBsa - Affordable energy action plan: https://lnkd.in/ebTeBxaP - (1) EuropeOn’s Manifesto: https://lnkd.in/d9Cnieym - (2) European Labour Authority 2024 report: https://lnkd.in/egVgRshe - (3) Nursing Plan: https://lnkd.in/eFCqtzhD 🔹 🔹 🔹 Teresa Ribera Miguel Gil Tertre Stéphane Séjourné Bertrand L'Huillier Arthur Corbin Wopke Hoekstra Han ten Broeke Dan Joergensen Martin Engell-Rossen Kurt Vandenberghe Kerstin Jorna Maive Rute Ditte Juul Jorgensen Electrification Alliance SolarPower Europe WindEurope Eurelectric European Heat Pump Association International Copper Association Europe smartEn Smart Energy Europe T&E Renewables Grid Initiative E-Mobility Europe

Norwegian electrical contractors are leading the way in sustainable fish farming! Norway is a leader in clean #electricity and farmed fish exports, and now, local electrical contractors are bringing #automation, AI, and digitalisation to the fish farming industry, to make it more efficient, profitable, and sustainable 🐟 💡 JM Hansen AS, one of the largest electrical and automation companies in Northern Norway and a part of our Norwegian member NHO Elektro, has developed a data-driven system named #FEED, to optimise fish feeding. FEED combines real-time sensor #data on ocean currents, oxygen levels, and salinity, with external data from BarentsWatch, the Meteorological Institute. They are able to provide farming companies with turnkey analysis that enables them to optimise their feeding strategy. Over time, #AI will use historical data and industry expertise to refine feeding strategies for even better results. 💻The FEED service enables operators to decrease waste, increase animal welfare, and has a positive effect on #sustainability, the economy and the environmental impact of the farming industry. 🔗 Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/ds6vZn4y 📑Check out this and other relevant case studies on our 2024 #SectorReport: https://bit.ly/4atTjPO Marius Saasen Strand Nina Hansen Oddvin Breiteig Ove Guttormsen #ElectricalContractors #FishFarm

Watch the video and listen to his reflection on the main challenges for the sector, namely the #skills gap, an aging #workforce, and unpredictable demand⬇️ This video is part of the inspiring digital campaign #ElectrifyingOurFuture launched by another of our members ECA - Excellence in Electrotechnical and Engineering Services 🔗Explore the campaign at: https://lnkd.in/enxVGMHF Iain Mason Jane Dawson Content With Purpose #Skills4Climate #ElectrificationUK #NetZeroUK
Alan Wilson, Managing Director at SELECT - Trade Association for Electrical Contracting Industry Scotland, discusses Scotland's electrical sector, where electrification brings both challenges and opportunities. Despite steady apprentice recruitment, a skills gap among qualified electricians, an ageing workforce, and limited diversity in the talent pool are key issues. Smaller firms, especially in rural areas, struggle with workforce development due to unpredictable demand, while larger companies with stable work pipelines can better plan for emerging technologies. To meet the growing demand for expertise in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and electrification of heat, Wilson stresses the need for upskilling and diversifying businesses. Scotland’s future in electrification depends on a workforce equipped to navigate policy-driven changes, such as phasing out gas products. With vast career opportunities ahead, Wilson encourages the sector to build a workforce ready to lead in this transformative era.
