🧠 Exploring the mysteries of the #brain with Steven Laureys : Frédéric Destrebecq, EBC's Executive Director, was in discussion with renowned neuroscientist and author at an event at TheMerode. The captivating conversation touched upon topics such as the link between #consciousness and being human, as well as the influence of #mindfulness on mental well-being and the physical brain. Steven Laureys uses neuroimaging to study neuroplasticity and recovery from brain disease and trauma but also in sleep, dreaming, anesthesia, hypnosis, trance and psychedelics. Additionally, his work focuses on understanding the power of the #mind as studied in Buddhist monks, astronauts, entrepreneurs, and top athletes. EBC was delighted to have been invited to this exceptional discourse, continuously striving to promote dialogue between scientists and society. 🔎 https://lnkd.in/eT6YKv4g

📢 EBC took part in the World Orphan Drug Congress Europe #WODC in Barcelona! Vinciane Quoidbach, EBC Research Project Manager, discussed the #Aspire4Rare EU Action Plan in a panel discussion on #RareDiseases. This participation accompanies EBC's co-authorship to the Aspire4Rare Global Report. This action plan will be a significant milestone for people living with rare disorders, however, while the community continues to advocate for this vital progression there remains urgent work to be done. Aspire4Rare proposes a Rare focussed health system framework with associated measurement approaches and good practice examples which can serve as a practical tool right now to support action on national policies such as rare disease strategies. 🔎 You can access the Global Report here: https://lnkd.in/eX_j_evQ

“We need more emphasis on shared decision making and that also implies a lot of emphasis on information provision.” Wiesje van der Flier At the heart of the Rethinking #Alzheimer's Disease Perspective Paper is the patient-centered philosophy. We advocate for a paradigm shift that prioritises the needs, values and experiences of people living with Alzheimer’s and their families. This entails early and accurate detection and diagnosis, using a personalised approach – the right treatment for the right person at the right time - and most innovative or advanced treatment plans, shared decision-making and holistic care strategies.
