About us
The European Microfinance Network (EMN) is a Brussels-based non-profit organisation with 91 members in 25 countries. We envision a society in which those excluded by the conventional banking system have access to a full range of financial and support services, empowering them to finance personal needs, consolidate existing businesses, and start new ventures to improve their lives. Our mission is to advocate for transparency and good governance in the European microfinance sector, while developing capacity building, promoting best practices and fostering research within and beyond the membership. EMN’s core membership is made up of microfinance practitioners. These are social purpose organisations delivering financial services to the underserved or facilitating access to such services. The work of the network is also supported by Partners and Corporate Members; organisations such as national networks, academia, service providers to the sector or banks that are involved in European microfinance issues and that support the development of microfinance in Europe.

Thank you, Autoocupació!
By preserving democracy we put #PeopleBeforeProfit👇
Democratic and participatory governance is one of the key principles of #SocialEconomy, which makes this ecosystem a unique ally of the EU to preserve its democratic values. How? By: Strengthening democratic practices within the economic fabric, enterprises and organisations: ▶️ Focusing on sustainability, social justice, and the common good, contributes to a more pluralistic economy, where diverse voices can shape policy and business practices. ▶️ Social economy initiatives empower local and marginalized communities to organise and create solutions for their own needs, fostering democratic engagement from the grassroots level. ▶️ Democratic governance structures, where members, workers and stakeholders broadly have a say in decisions, often based on the principle of "one person, one vote." This promotes active participation, giving individuals a direct voice in their economic, social and work environments. They bring #democracy to the workplace. Social economy plays a significant role in strengthening democracy by promoting #participation, #inclusiveness and #SocialActivities, by: ▶️ Enabling Civic Engagement through social and civic networks that foster a culture of cooperation, mutual aid, and solidarity. ▶️ Strengthening social cohesion through locally rooted community-oriented initiatives that build networks of trust, shared values, solidarity and collaboration among citizens, which are vital for fostering strong democratic institutions and dialogue. ▶️ Providing services that are community-oriented and responsive to public needs, filling gaps where governments or markets fall short. This enhances democratic accountability in service provision. ▶️ Representing the interests of marginalized groups in society, ensuring that their voices are heard in political and economic decision-making processes. ▶️ Advocating for policies that reflect SE values of social justice, inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability. ▶️ Challenging the concentration of economic power by allowing individuals and communities to own and control the means of production and distribution, ensuring that economic decisions reflect the interests of a wider array of stakeholders. The social economy actively contributes to a more participatory, fair, and inclusive democratic society. This holistic approach reinforces the foundations of democracy at both the local and national levels. European Microfinance Network reposted this
#EMD2024

Yesterday, Qredits hosted an amazing study visit, facilitated by EMN under the SIFTA | Social Inclusive Finance Technical Assistance initiative. 𝟮𝟮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟵 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮, 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮, 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. The different workshops covered all the possible angles, starting from Muhammad Yunus’s ‘Banker to the poor’ book inspiring the creation of Qredits, to the fully automation of their systems which still retains a high personal touch, to the impressive pool of mentors and volunteers which makes their BDS offer so successful in creating new entrepreneurs, from all backgrounds. Thanks to Evelyne Oprel, Elwin Groenevelt and to all the team at Qredits for being such open and welcoming hosts and letting each participant take inspiration from your story. Until next time!
