✊ ETF on Strike: Defending Workers’ Rights in Belgium! ✊ Today, the ETF Secretariat is on strike, joining the call of ACV/CSC and ABVV/FGTB against the devastating austerity measures imposed by the “Arizona” government. We stood in solidarity with workers at the BruCargo picket and joined the demonstration in central Brussels to demand fair pensions, secure jobs, and strong public services. Transport workers are particularly affected, facing drastic budget cuts, job insecurity, and the erosion of collective bargaining rights. Workers keep Belgium moving. They deserve respect, fair conditions, and a government that listens. ETF stands with Belgian workers in their fight for justice! 📢 ETF Affiliates Make Railworkers' Voices Heard in Brussels! 🚆💬 Yesterday, at the "From the Tracks to Brussels" event, ETF affiliates stood alongside policymakers to demand stronger investment, fair transport, and better working conditions in the rail sector. EU decision-makers, including representatives from the EU Commission and the European Parliament, listened as union leaders warned against the dangers of liberalisation and the need for worker-centred policies. ETF General Secretary Livia Spera made it clear: “The number and intensity of social conflicts in railways across Europe is growing. Clearly, there is social uneasiness. Today, we are launching a dialogue that we want to be meaningful. If we won't meet interest from policymakers, national conflicts risk becoming European ones.” 🚊✊ #FairTransport #WeAreETF #Railways #EU

"A Direct Attack on Workers’ Rights and Corporate Accountability" say European trade unions in a joint Statement on the #Omnibus proposal https://lnkd.in/ehaR87ju The Omnibus is a gift to corporate lobbyists at the expense of workers and the planet. Under the guise of "simplification," this proposal is nothing short of a betrayal of the EU’s commitments to sustainable business practices, human rights, and climate action. ✊ Joint European Trade Union Statement on the Omnibus Proposal The ETF, along with other European trade unions, is strongly condemning the European Commission’s Omnibus proposal. This move is a direct attack on workers’ rights, corporate accountability, and environmental protections. If passed, the proposal will weaken key regulations in the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, leaving workers, trade unions, and ecosystems exposed to unchecked harm from corporate operations. 📣 We call on the European Parliament to reject this dangerous package and protect workers and the environment from further exploitation. https://lnkd.in/eknNiJCC

Joint statement: 1⃣️7⃣️ industry organisations representing the European waterborne ecosystem, including the ETF, published joint paper highlighting their priorities in view of the upcoming maritime and port strategies. The statement highlights the importance of workers for the waterborne sector, acknowledging seafarers, R&D experts, dockers, port workers, port service providers and those in associated logistics form the backbone of the industry. Labour shortages threaten the effectiveness and competitiveness of the sector. Good working conditions not only attract investment in innovation but also reinforce the efforts of responsible firms. Signatories therefore call for the upcoming European strategies to include a strong social and labour dimension, developed in cooperation with social partners, and aligned with the upcoming Quality Jobs Roadmap. Measures must promote high-quality employment, strengthen social dialogue, and enhance training and upskilling opportunities for workers. 🔗Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e46cDS7i

🏗️ Port Work in Transition: Balancing progress and change in sustainability, automation, and digitalization At yesterday's #ConnectingPorts session hosted by HPC Hamburg Port Consulting, the ETF strongly voiced the perspective of dockworkers from across Europe. As automation and digitalization reshape the industry, Bera Tommasi, ETF Policy Officer for Dockers, emphasized that workers must not be left behind. 👉 Technology should enhance the role of dockworkers, not push them out of the industry. It should not be imposed without workers' consultation and must be paired with fair transition measures — retraining, job guarantees, and negotiated agreements. 👉 Investment in people is just as vital as investment in technology. Ports that prioritize training, upskilling, and fair collective bargaining are more likely to thrive long-term. 🚨 The ideal port of the future invests in both innovation and its workforce, ensuring that competitiveness is not built on reducing labor costs alone. Port workers deserve a sustainable and fair future! 💪🌍 📖 Full article: https://lnkd.in/eHSK4DVB

European Shipping Summit (ESS) Day 1 roundup: Today, Sascha Meijer, Assistant General Secretary of @Nautilus and ETF MT EU Committee chair shared her vast experience with diversity and inclusion in the maritime sector♀️ Informed by workers' experience, she shared important issues such as persisting prejudice against women seafarers and their professionalism, bullying and harassment and work-life-balance for both women and men. In the afternoon session, ETF's NIKOLAOS KOLETSIS and Danny McGowan, Head of International Relations at Nautilus International, participated in the panel session “People at the helm: navigating the future of shipping”. They highlighted that the industry must: 🔹address the recruitment and retention crisis, 🔹offer a just transition and put seafarers in the heart of the green and digital transition and 🔹put social sustainability at the heart of the European maritime space. The EU should lead by example and push for the continuous improvement of international standards. #ESS25 #ESS2025 #Shipping
