NGTs can make edits within the plant's own DNA, enabling changes that could happen naturally or through traditional breeding methods. 💡 With NGTs, we can develop crops faster, at lower costs, and hopefully soon, with less regulatory burden - especially for plants that could occur through conventional breeding. 🥒 A new discovery has identified a genetic module, CsTIE1-CsAGL16, that simultaneously controls lateral branch development and drought tolerance in cucumbers. This dual-function pathway offers a promising approach to breeding varieties that are both resilient to water scarcity and tailored to market needs. 🔬 This study from China Agricultural University reveals how CsTIE1 interacts with CsAGL16 to regulate ABA catabolism—enhancing both drought resistance and branch architecture. With this knowledge, breeders can develop water-efficient cucumber varieties ideal for drought-prone regions.
