'I got into plant breeding by accident—I just wanted to work outside!' Clare Moscrop, Wheat Breeding Assistant at DSV UK United Kingdom Ltd tells us how a job search led her to a summer role in wheat breeding, and how from that moment she never looked back. Thanks to an incredible female mentor, Clare is now working to breed climate-resilient wheat for the future. 🌾💪 ©DSV We would like to thank the The British Society of Plant Breeders for sharing this story with us! 🙏 Stay tuned for other interesting #seedsector stories! 👀🌱 #GrowingTheFuture #WomenInScience #TalesFromTheField #plantbreeding

Euroseeds is the voice of the European seed sector. We are #GrowingTheFuture.
About us
www.euroseeds.eu Euroseeds merges national seed associations as well as individual companies into one single EU wide umbrella organization representing the totality of the European seed industry active in research, breeding, production and marketing of seeds of agricultural, horticultural and ornamental plant species. It was founded in November 2000 and is located in Brussels, Belgium. “Plants from seed are the origin of all food, provide innovative and environmentally friendly industrial products and beautify our landscape.” Euroseeds’s mission is to work for a fair and proportionate regulation of the European seed industry, freedom of choice for customers in supplying seeds as a result of innovative, diverse technologies and production methods and for effective protection of intellectual property rights relating to plants and seed. In that sense, Euroseeds lobbies on all seed related issues and specifically on: - seed marketing, incl. GM and organic seed - Intellectual Property Rights (Plant Breeders Rights, Biotech Patents, etc.) - plant/seed health (phytosanitary rules; seed treatments) - biodiversity and access to genetic resources - land use and food production - competitiveness of the EU agri-food chain It also aims at solving collective problems of its membership like e.g. market access in third countries.

Fun #FridayFact! 🎉 🌱 Seed you later, alligator! #DYK some seeds can stay dormant for YEARS, waiting for the perfect conditions to sprout? Or that the smallest seed comes from an orchid, as fine as dust? Seeds are tiny powerhouses—full of surprises! 🌾🤩 ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/emkYAQCH #GrowingTheFuture #seedpower #plantbreeding

🌱 Plant breeding has undergone a significant transformation, playing a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and resilience of supply chains. Scientific symposium entitled “Plant Breeding for Supply Chains" this week at the University of Hohenheim was a success story. Main aims of this event were to address these challenges by exploring innovative technologies and resources that can support breeders in adapting to and improving current agricultural systems. Behind this was a lot of great work in preparation for this event. On behalf of the KWS Group participants, I would like to thank the entire organizing team and especially Dr. Patrick Thorwarth and Prof. Dr. Friedrich Longin (both LSA/UHOH) for this excellent event! Let us implement scientific innovations through plant breeding on farmers' fields today, tomorow and in the future. 🌱 #plantbreeding #thinkingInGenerations #seedingthefuture

🌱European Framework Programmes (FPs) have been boosting R&I activity growth in Europe for the past 20 years! A report recently released by Plants for the Future analyses trends in R&I funding for plant breeding from FP7 through Horizon 2020 and the first half of Horizon Europe. From rising funding to innovative methods like #NGTs and #GM, plant breeding has seen highs and lows in the EU’s research landscape. Among the key findings the report highlights that when it comes to plant breeding, the funding growth is slow.... It's time for a strategic boost! 🌾📈 Read more ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/eWrShcvr Christophe Hansen | Oliver Varhelyi | Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle | Jessica Polfjärd | Pascal Canfin | Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación | Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union | Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries | Ministère de l'Agriculture et de la Souveraineté alimentaire #GrowingTheFuture #plantbreeding #RI #agrifood

#LegumeGenerationNewsFromTheField 🤝In a collaborative effort to enhance soybean breeding for yield and adaptability, partners across Europe are testing superior genotypes in diverse environments. This work focuses on selecting genotypes for grain yield and resilience across northern, central, and southern Europe 🌍. Spotlight on the work of the AgroBioInstitute (ABI) in Bulgaria 🚜At a field site in Pavlikeny village, North Central Bulgaria, 60 foreign soybean genotypes have been meticulously evaluated for the environmental performance and capacity for adaption. This critical work has been carried out by a dedicated team comprising one breeder and two technicians. #soybean #soybeanbreeding #legumebreeding

#GiveCRISPRaChance Morocco World News recently interviewed Valentine Otang Ntui, an associate professor of genome editing at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). He shared his insights on how CRISPR technology could address Africa's food security challenges. https://lnkd.in/dkYdFRbB CRISPR enables precise modifications to crop genomes, helping develop more resilient and productive crops 🌱. This technology has the potential to: 🌾 Improve crop yields 🌿Reduce dependency on chemical pesticides and fertilizers 🥦Enhance crop nutrient profiles The article emphasizes the need for regulatory frameworks and investment in research to fully harness CRISPR's benefits for transforming Africa's agricultural landscape 🌍 . Professor Otang Ntui discussed real-world applications of CRISPR, including genome editing strategies for bananas 🍌, a staple food in East Africa. While North African countries like Morocco have yet to adopt guidelines for the technology, early-phase research is underway 🥼. For instance, Otang Ntui and his students are developing virus-resistant tomatoes 🍅 using CRISPR. He hopes that as more projects emerge, Morocco will take a leadership role in genome editing in North Africa. #NewGenomicTechniques#GrowingTheFuture
