🚨#Temu Under EU Investigation: Protecting 9️⃣2️⃣ Million Users in Europe 🚨 The European Commission opened a formal #investigation into whether Temu, the 🇨🇳 online shopping giant, has potentially breached the Digital Services Act (#DSA) in key areas: 🔍 Illegal Product Sales: Looking into efforts preventing previously suspended rogue traders or non-compliant products from reappearing. 🧠 Addictive Design: Investigating game-like reward programs and their impact on users’ physical and mental well-being. 🛒 Recommendation Systems: Ensuring transparency and user options that do not rely on profiling. 🔓 Data Access: Checking Temu’s compliance in giving researchers access to publicly available data. If non-compliance is proven, Temu could face fines up to 6️⃣% of its revenue. 👉🏻At the European Tech Alliance (#EUTA), we stand behind the enforcement of EU rules to ensure fair competition and robust consumer protection. Compliance is non-negotiable for all platforms operating within the EU. It’s about upholding trust, fairness, and the spirit of Europe’s digital economy. #DSA #EUConsumerProtection #FairCompetition

Today, our Secretary General, Victoria de Posson, highlighted the importance of #trusted #reviews and #consumer #protection at the Coalition for trusted reviews conference. The message was clear: 👉🏻 The rules are in place, but enforcement is key. After these regulations take effect, we could reassess the framework to identify any gaps. If new rules are necessary, they must be tailored, risk-based, and proportionate. Moreover, it’s essential to ensure fairness between online and offline consumer protection. ⚖️ 💡 It’s not about more regulation; it’s about smarter enforcement and maintaining competitiveness. Great exchange with Els Bruggeman (euroconsumers) and Kasia Colombani (DGA Group). Amazing organisation from Trustpilot (Jane McIntosh (Wallace) and Booking.com ( Nadia Antoniou and Elena Vasileva). #ConsumerProtection #TrustedReviews #Enforcement #DSA #FutureProof #Competitiveness

🚀 Today at the conference on #trusted #reviews, I had the opportunity to speak about the importance of consumer protection and trust in building successful European companies. With the recent European Commission report - #digital #fairness fitness check - confirming the legal framework for consumer protection is still relevant and effective, we are reminded of the importance of enforcing these rules. While some gaps have been identified, most are being addressed through new regulations such as the Digital Services Act (#DSA). The key takeaway? The rules are in place, but #enforcement is critical. Once the EU rules have had time to bed in, we can reassess the framework. If gaps are identified, any measure(s) must be tailored, risk-based, and proportionate. And let's ensure a level playing field between online and offline ecosystems. 💡 It’s not about more regulation, it’s about smarter enforcement and ensuring competitiveness. 🙏🏻 Many thanks for the invitation Trustpilot (Jane McIntosh (Wallace)) and Booking.com (Nadia Antoniou). Amazing work! #ConsumerProtection #DigitalFairness #DFA #DSA #TrustedReviews #Enforcement #FutureProof #Competitiveness #Tech4Europe

🚨 #Temu, the 🇨🇳 online shopping platform, is under new scrutiny! 🚨 The European Commission has given Temu until Oct. 21 to demonstrate how it's complying with the EU's content moderation rules under the Digital Services Act (#DSA). This includes showing how it limits illegal content, sharing details about its recommendation algorithms, and addressing risks to user privacy. The European Tech Alliance welcomes the Commission's efforts to enforce EU rules for all actors operating in the single market, whether based in Europe or elsewhere. We have serious concerns about some platforms offering services within the EU that are not meeting EU standards. This creates unfair competition. ⚖️🚫 Actors not established in the EU who do not respect EU rules give the impression that additional regulations may be needed.  However, new regulations shouldn't be rushed. We need to give existing laws, such as the Digital Services Act, time to demonstrate their impact. Once they have taken effect, we can assess consumer behaviour and potential gaps. It’s encouraging to see swift action being taken to protect consumers and uphold fair competition in the EU! 🇪🇺🛡️

🚀 Up to 3️⃣ 0️⃣ % of EU tech companies' resources are consumed by compliance efforts, which stifles innovation and growth. EUTA’s Chair of the Board, Robert Torvelainen, participated in the EuroFinance event, sharing key insights: 1️⃣ The Draghi Report highlighted the urgency for Europe to close the tech gap and keep pace with global innovation. 2️⃣ While the Single Market remains more aspirational than operational, European tech companies struggle to scale due to fragmented national markets, inconsistent regulation and divergent interpretations. 3️⃣ For Europe to make the most of new technologies, we need to be more targeted in tackling risks, and we need to improve on legal clarity and certainty. 🚀 It’s time to empower European tech companies! #EuropeTech #Tech4Europe #Innovation #DigitalEconomy

🚀 EUTA engages with European Parliament to strengthen Europe’s tech competitiveness! 🇪🇺💡 Eleven CEOs from top EU tech companies met with key Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the EPP, Renew Europe, and the Greens to discuss pressing challenges. 🔑 Key priorities discussed: 1️⃣ Reducing regulatory burdens – Free up resources for innovation by streamlining regulations! 2️⃣ Ensuring consistent enforcement of EU rules – Level the playing field for all companies operating in the EU. 3️⃣ Adopting risk-based regulations – Tailor policies to diverse tech models, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. 🗣️ Antoine Jouteau, EUTA President and CEO of Adevinta, commented: “The fever of regulation is becoming a problem. EU tech companies now allocate up to 30% of their roadmap on compliance, diverting valuable resources away from innovation and enhancing the consumer experience."  🗣️ Victoria de Posson, EUTA Secretary General, emphasised: “European tech companies need time to digest the numerous regulatory layers introduced in recent years. Any future initiatives must be risk-based and carefully tailored to safeguard Europe’s competitiveness." Many thanks to our hosts: Stéphanie Yon-Courtin, Svenja Hahn, Sandro Gozi, #AlexandraGeese, Andreas Schwab, Eva Maydell (Paunova), Regina Doherty MEP, Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, Dimitrios Tsiodras, Dóra Dávid, Christian Doleschal. Many thanks to ours members: Adevinta, Allegro, AirHelp, appJobber - a brand of wer denkt was GmbH, Booking.com, Cdiscount, Delivery Hero, HelloWork, Proton , Schibsted, Trustpilot and Vinted. 📲 Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working to enhance Europe’s tech landscape! #EUTA #TechCompetitiveness #EUtech #Innovation #PolicyAndRegulation #TechLeadership
