The European Tourism Manifesto is here to work with policy makers and sectoral stakeholders across Europe to build consensus, confront roadblocks, and accelerate progress. Thanks to colleagues for lively discussion this week as we reviewed progress and planned our work programme for first part of 2025. We are looking forward to working with the wider Manifesto community to build momentum on common action as Europe's new #strategyfortourism takes shape.

Today, European Exhibition Industry Alliance met with Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism and MEP Daniel Attard in the framework of an European Parliament event organised by the Rhodes Forum, a group of 10 associations lead by HOTREC - Hotels, Restaurants & Cafés in Europe. David Boon presented the exhibition industry’s contributions to decarbonising with the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative and highlighted our most important need to simplify and privide clear guidance on the implementation of the EU‘s sustainability legislation.

While many of you are enjoying your well deserved holidays ☀️we are still working hard in Brussels to wrap up the first semester of this year and to prepare association activities, meetings and relevant content as well as advocacy messages and plans for the upcoming months for JMIC Joint Meetings Industry Council and the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative, for European Major Exhibition Centres Association and the European Exhibition Industry Alliance with UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. European Tourism Manifesto congratulates Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election and wishes her all success during her second mandate. Today, the European Tourism Manifesto has published its four priorities for 2024-29: Decarbonisation; EU Vision & Strategy; Connectivity & Borders; Innovation & Adaptation. This week I attended IMEX on behalf of European Major Exhibition Centres Association and European Exhibition Industry Alliance, here my highlights: 🤝 The JMIC Joint Meetings Industry Council welcomed new Members AFIDA - Asociación Internacional de Ferias de América and IELA - The Int. Exhibition Logistics Association, elected a new Board: President James Rees and myself as treasurer were confirmed for another term, Adeline Vancauwelaert, Martin Boyle and Flavie de Bueil are new Board members with whom we will continue the precious work on advocacy and Net Zero Carbon Events. Our sincere thanks go to Kai Hattendorf for his outstanding leadership during his terms in office! 💡I attended the IMEX Policy Forum and many other inspiring sessions, met with so many colleagues and celebrated the outstanding achievements of industry colleagues, among which Peter King who received the JMIC Joint Meetings Industry Council Unity Award 🏆 💪🏻 Finally, in a session with my counterpart Tommy Goodwin and moderated by Marsha Flanagan, M.Ed., CEM, we provided an overview on advocacy in the EU and the US, pointing out policy areas of joint interest, different methods and potential collaboration to power the exhibition and events sector’s voice and perception.
