🚀 With the publication of this Food For Thought, Finabel explores various strands of the strategic domain of #space in the #European context, involving analyses ranging from explorations of the sector’s #legal dimensions to a further dive into the lessons learned from the #RussoUkrainian War in the realm of space. 🇪🇺 The first paper tackles the issue of #fragmentation in the EU’s space landscape, highlighting the limitations of governing the domain across numerous different organisations. The second evaluates the establishment of the EU’s Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite (#IRIS²), while the third and fourth delve into European endeavours to bolster future #capabilities in space and the upper atmosphere and the #EuropeanSpaceAgency’s Ariane 6 Rocket, respectively. 🇬🇪 The introduction of ‘foreign agents’ law in Georgia marked a major step that challenged #democraticgovernance and #civilsociety autonomy in the former Soviet republic. This highly controversial legislation, very similar to a Russian law used to counter political #dissidents, has led to huge protests across the country and fuelled concerns about its future #geopolitical positioning. ⚖️ In this article, Guido Guarino delves into the broader implications of this law, its potential impact on Georgia's #European aspirations, and the critical stance taken by the #VeniceCommission and other European institutions 🇪🇺.  As Georgia balances its aspirations for European #integration and possible #NATO membership, the reintroduction of this law could signify a decisive shift in the country's #military and #strategic alliances. 🇷🇺 🌊 #Russia’s recent comments regarding their possible withdrawal from the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (#UNCLOS), compels the international community to re-think the integrity of the current #maritime order, assess present #challenges and examine different possibilities for the governance of the #seas. A party renouncing UNCLOS would undermine the #stability of the international #LawOfTheSea regime and call into question the #solidity of the current system. ⚓️ In this paper, Belén Padrón Salinas explores the legal framework surrounding Russian maritime claims and the ongoing procedures with the #CLCS, and analyses the geopolitical and legal implications of Russia’s threats to withdraw.
