🚀 Next stop on the Flow Batteries Tour is focused on Sweden’s first innovative microgrid using 100% locally produced green energy. 𝑮𝒐𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕? 💡 The village of Simris, in Sweden was looking to locally produce renewable energy for a community of 150 households but it needed a way to store and utilise the energy. The challenge was to ensure that customers in the village who are connected to the local energy system would not experience a difference in the quality of power supplied by using a flow battery. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒔?🌍 The energy for the households comes from wind turbines with installed capacity of 500 kilowatts (kW) and photovoltaic panels with 440 kW, supported by a flow battery system with 800 kW capacity. CellCube’s vanadium flow battery technology overcame the renewable intermittency and acts as a buffer between demand and supply of energy in the village. The Simris project demonstrates how distributed renewable energy combined with energy storage can support quality power for distribution. Learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eegj9c8z

📢 Important update: The European Commission has selected 85 innovative net-zero projects to receive €4.8 billion in grants from the Innovation Fund. Among them is a project featuring a hybrid energy storage system that combines lithium-ion and vanadium flow batteries, linked to a large-scale solar PV farm in France. While 337 project applications were submitted, only 85 projects received funding, which is expected to help reduce emissions by approximately 476 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over their first ten years of operation.
