🚗 The EU’s plan to end sales of new internal combustion engine (#ICE) vehicles by 2035 has sparked debate. And former Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean voiced strong concerns to POLITICO Europe. Vălean highlighted how the ban could challenge #European industry, especially with the influx of more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) from outside the #EU. “I was surprised that it was ever introduced,” said Vălean to the newspaper. “We created a market in Europe for cheap EVs from outside,” she pointed out. “Now we are retaliating with taxes. How is this going to work for our industry?” Hence, the need for a balanced approach that considers Europe’s competitive edge, energy diversity, and technological resilience. Renewable fuels, such as #biofuels and #efuels, are needed and they can play a vital role in reducing emissions without sacrificing the potential of the #ICE. All technologies will have a role to play in reaching climate neutrality. 🇪🇺 In our “More Than a Manifesto”, we identified Europe’s needs in the coming years and we share our vision of what success would look like for Europe. The Fuels Manufacturing Industry is part of the solution and we are committed to contributing to achieving the EU 2050 objectives. #ClimateNeutrality cannot be achieved without #RenewableFuels and the rest of our industrial products and, with the right policy framework, we can contribute and invest in the EU, ensure a sustainable, secure and affordable supply of #energy, and foster an innovative EU-based, globally competitive industry of net-zero products. 🌱 Read our Offer for Europe: https://lnkd.in/gfZEFnPC

🚢 The Clean Maritime Fuels Platform, composed of FuelsEurope, European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), eFuel Alliance, EWABA, Hydrogen Europe and Methanol Institute, is calling on EU policymakers to create a robust regulatory framework to unlock investments in the production of clean #maritime fuels in the EU, key to the #shipping industry’s energy transition and Europe's climate goals. According to the #DraghiReport, an estimated €40 billion annually will be required from 2031 to 2050 to support the sector's energy transition. We support the report’s conclusions regarding the need to: ✅ De-risk investments in #renewable and #lowcarbonfuels, for example via schemes based on Contracts for Difference and auctions as a service. ✅ Launch dedicated sectoral calls under the Innovation Fund for the first deployment of decarbonisation solutions. ✅ Expand existing funding mechanisms for refuelling and recharging infrastructure. ✅ Start building a supply chain for renewable and low-carbon fuels in the EU Europe’s manufacturing capabilities must be ready to meet demand, aligning with the Net-Zero Industry Act. It is time to unlock the full potential of the #cleanfuels supply chain. Read the full Press Release here: https://lnkd.in/dvmkE4CW

📢 With the upcoming informal Council meeting in Budapest on 8 November, FuelsEurope calls on the EU Presidency and Heads of State to align discussions with the critical recommendations presented in the Draghi Report. As Europe navigates decarbonisation, we advocate for practical support for Energy-Intensive Industries, a stronger focus on reducing regulatory burdens, and a commitment to technology neutrality in transport through #renewables and #lowcarbonfuels. Liana Gouta, Director General at FuelsEurope, stresses the urgency: "The report powerfully urges the EU and Member State regulators to prioritise competitiveness and growth as essential pillars for safeguarding Europe's core values of prosperity, equity, freedom, peace, and democracy in a sustainable environment." Without bold action, we risk our economic and social welfare. The Draghi Report, with overwhelming support from EU stakeholders, calls for immediate steps to close the innovation gap with the US and China, decarbonise industries, and enhance economic security. The November 8th meeting is our chance to bring these recommendations to life. FuelsEurope is ready to cooperate with the European Commission and Member States to make the recommendations of Mario Draghi a reality and successfully implement the measures needed to ensure the competitive future of the EU. More than ever, we need to restore the EU’s industrial competitiveness, boost #innovation and refocus on the global market. We strongly believe that the fuel manufacturing industry has a crucial role in the proposed plan for #decarbonisation and #competitiveness as proposed in the #DraghiReport. 🚗 In the past years, the passenger car registrations for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have increased but petrol and hybrid cars remain popular choices amongst Europeans, as shown in data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) featured in this year’s FuelsEurope Statistical Report (see the graph below). These internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles will be on the roads for years to come, and #renewablefuels are the key to reducing their emissions. With renewable fuels, there is no need for new infrastructure or engine modifications. The only change required? The fuel itself. To achieve climate neutrality, all solutions: renewable fuels, electrification and hydrogen will be needed. ✅ You can learn more about it by visiting our cleanfuelsforall.eu website.

🇪🇺 FuelsEurope and the other 16 co-signatories welcome the European Commission's steps toward defining the necessary elements for the certification of #lowcarbonfuels to support a clear regulatory framework, a prerequisite for their needed ramp-up. The co-signatories highlight several points of the draft Delegated Act, which would endanger the deployment of low-carbon hydrogen and bottleneck the realisation of the EU hydrogen ambitions. It should also be noted that low-carbon fuels currently receive only limited recognition and incentives from the #EU regulatory framework. In the attached letter, the co-signatories, amongst several points: ‐ Support the intention to deliver this Delegated Act efficiently and swiftly with a technologically neutral approach. ‐ Welcome the intention to apply equivalent requirements for domestic and imported low-carbon fuels to ensure a necessary level playing field. ‐ Consider it necessary to include in the Delegated Act the possibility to recognise and provide adequate proof of better performance of individual projects, at each step of the production process, for all types of GHG, compared to the default values set in the Delegated Act. Clear and inclusive regulations will be key to accelerating the adoption of low-carbon technologies across Europe. The co-signatories stand ready to collaborate in this journey toward a #sustainable future! ➡️ Read the entirety of our joint statement here: https://lnkd.in/dwF2fPMr

📣 The Network for Sustainable Mobility, which FuelsEurope is member of alongside 23 other associations, calls for a revision of the CO2 emission standards regulations for LDVs and HDVs, that embraces technology openness. The current narrow “tailpipe” approach limits the range of viable solutions to meet CO2 reduction targets in road transport. As highlighted in Mario Draghi’s report, the EU must restore its commitment to technological neutrality. #Sustainable, renewable fuels (like #biofuels and #efuels) must be recognised alongside electrification to give both the market and consumers a wider choice of effective decarbonisation solutions. Our Network supports a unified plan that champions both decarbonisation and competitiveness by utilising the full spectrum of low-carbon technologies. 📄 Read the full joint statement here: https://lnkd.in/e7mZiyKS #SustainableMobility #TechnologyNeutrality #Biofuels #Decarbonisation
