🇪🇺 Last Thursday Generation Climate Europe (GCE) joined the Future Generations Initiative and representatives from the European Institutions and civil society at European Parliament for a wonderful event, "Europe for the Future: Developing Tools to Build an EU Fit for Future Generations" hosted by Lídia Pereira MEP. 💡 We participated in a joint panel with members from the #FitForFutureGenerations coalition, highlighting the fact that although proximate, future and young people are separate categories and require different protection mechanisms. 💭 But our discussion went much deeper: we explored the necessity for the EU to recognize legal obligations towards future generations, in line with the UN #PactForTheFuture, and discussed existing good practices, such as Wales' approach to envisioning and representing the needs of future generations. 👏 With the recent appointment of a commissioner on intergenerational fairness, the time has come for the EU to step up its policies in this vital area. EU Member States are gearing up to implement the Nature Restoration Law! 🌍 We’re excited to share that the #RestoreNature campaign has launched a comprehensive report to guide Member States in drafting their National Restoration Plans (NRPs), which are due in just two years. The report provides insights to help navigate the legal requirements of the law, focusing on the preparation, drafting, and finalisation of NRPs. The success of the Nature Restoration Law hinges on effective implementation by Member States. At the end of September, Generation Climate Europe (GCE) Climate Europe held a workshop on #COP29 Essentials - A Crashcourse on Climate Negotiations. The two-day workshop consisted of several sessions related to the UNFCCC UN COP29 Azerbaijan process as well as thematic focus areas of recent and future COPs. Here is a recap👇 🇺🇳 The workshop started with an introduction to the UNFCCC COP by Kira Kluge as well as a session on Networking and Lobbying by Penny Kapusuzoğlu. 🌱 Day 1 ended with a session on Ecosystems at Risk, headed by Areesha Rashid, which included a speaker from the GCE biodiversity working group, Jakob Mohl. 💰 Day 2 was dedicated to #climatefinance. It started with a session on Sustainable Development and Finance lead by Zhuldyz Ramazanova. In this session, we delved into sustainable buildings, climate finance, and ESG with expert insights from Temur Akhmedov, LEED AP, CEM, Vito Saluto, and Yerlik Karazhan. 💵🌍 We ended the workshop with a session on Empowering Youth through Climate Finance. The featured sessions on climate finance basics, led by Emmanuella Doreen K. from the Green Climate Fund, and a panel discussion with finance experts and young leaders: Aurora Audino, Tolu O., and Fidelis Stehle. Participants explored challenges and opportunities in accessing funding for youth-driven climate initiatives 🤝 💫 We are very happy with the outcome of the workshop and would like to once again thank all the speakers for their inspiring input! #climatefinance #youthinclimate #climate
