Following the release of the Draghi Report, today the Council of the European Union will discuss the competitiveness of Europe’s industrial base🏗️. Glass for Europe welcomes the warning sent by the Draghi Report on the future of European industry. This was also a key topic of discussion at our Board meeting yesterday. https://lnkd.in/eYm3dSNr As Christian Quenett (NSG Group) explains in this video from our ‘Manifesto 2024-2029’, 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞’𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 is a necessary condition for decarbonization and further investments in EU manufacturing.

Today the Energy Council will meet to discuss European competitiveness in energy. European #flatglass manufacturers face energy costs that are 3 𝐭𝐨 4 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 than their competitors. This raises production costs, 30% of which come from with energy. This situation needs to be addressed so that the production of flat glass in Europe can thrive and meet the demand for efficient products in reducing emissions 📉 in buildings. We look forward to the confirmation hearings of the commissioners-designate to learn more about their proposals and vision for the next term on this major challenge for European industry going forward. Today we were excited to host a workshop for our members and national partners laying out what is set to change in the EU's Construction Products Regulation. And what better day to do that than on #WorldStandardsDay!   The updated CPR legislation introduces sustainability requirements, promotes digitalization, and, importantly, aims to solve deadlocks in the standardisation of construction products in the EU.   Thank you to our experts Anne Minne and Šikyňová Anna for contributing with their expertise on this complex file! #Glass #FlatGlass #Glazing #Construction #CPR #standards #regulation

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we reflect on how our mental well-being is impacted by our social environment and our living spaces. ☀️ Ample #daylight and connection to the outdoors affects our mood, our health, and our openness to social connection. Did you know that, according to Eurostat data, a full 30 million Europeans lack enough daylight in their homes? 📈In winter, high-performance windows protect us from the cold and give us a feeling of comfort and safety. A dimly lit classroom or workplace can be the difference between efficiency and apathy. This is why #flatglass is an irreplaceable material for any building built to serve our needs. Today the European Parliament will debate the crisis facing the European automotive sector🚗. This challenge is at the heart of the next European term, which will have to address the growing competition faced by domestic industries. In our #flatglass sector, which provides a key material for automotive manufacturing, the share of automotive glass imported from China has doubled in just six years. The urgency of this debate could not be clearer. For more information read our Chair's Op-ed on Euractiv in the first comment ⬇️⬇️

The #glass industry had strong representation today at the workshop on ‘Competitiveness, Industrial Strategy, and the Green Economy,’ chaired by MEP João Cotrim de Figueiredo. Adrien Carton, speaking on behalf of Glass for Europe, presented key elements of the #flatglass sector 2024-2029 manifesto. He emphasized the critical need for accelerated investments in building renovation as part of a forward-thinking industrial policy. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of circularity in construction to promote the recycling of materials like old #glazing. Adrien explained, "The flat glass sector's business model is deeply tied to the EU's climate neutrality goals. Our high-performance products are essential to reducing energy use in buildings." Revising climate targets should not be a priority. Bertrand Cazes, Secretary General of Glass Alliance Europe, also participated in the discussion. When asked about key priorities for a new industrial policy, Bertrand identified three critical areas: - Ensuring access to affordable energy and making investments in energy infrastructure. - Supporting decarbonization efforts in the glass industry through targeted funding and a prudent approach to potential CBAM extensions. - Implementing incentives to boost the use of low-carbon, European-made glass. Bertrand emphasized the importance of a well-executed NZIA that includes glass' upstream components of net-zero technologies, alongside enforcing trade defense measures where necessary. The workshop saw participation from around 20 representatives from various sectors, including digital, retail, start-ups, and industry. A big thank you to the organizers for giving the glass industry a seat at the table. We look forward to continued collaboration toward a sustainable and competitive future! #competitiveness #industry #industrialpolicy #decarbonization #renovation #circularity
