BEVs and #hydrogen cars are solutions that should work together to reduce #emissions. The #Olympic games have long brought together the world’s most promising athletes, to compete in a spirit of peace and international cooperation. So perhaps it is fitting that #Paris2024 is the venue for hydrogen cars and BEVs to square off against each other, in the same spirt. Hopefully, the competing believers in hydrogen and electric-mobility will also preserve some of that Olympian spirit of goodwill once the games come to a close. This week, the newly elected members of the European Parliament are meeting for the first Plenary session of the 2024-2029 legislative mandate that sees Ursula von der Leyen and Roberta Metsola as candidates for the Commission and Parliament presidencies respectively In this framework and looking at the next five years, #H2Europe had a webinar conversation with a few political leaders from different groups on the priorities for the next mandate concerning #climate ambitions, competitiveness, industrial policy and how hydrogen can connect all of them on the road to the #2030 targets. The #H2Talk “Reaching 2030 – EU mandate to deliver on climate ambition” saw as speakers Vice-President of the EP Jan-Christoph Oetjen, MEP João Albuquerque, MEP Hildegard Bentele, MEP Jens Geier, MEP Radan Kanev and Antonios Nestoras and was moderated by #H2Europe’s CEO Jorgo Chatzimarkakis. Here are some main takeaways from the conversation: 💧#Hydrogen & #technology Hydrogen is an enabler of industry #decarbonisation and hard-to-abate sectors, as well as a provider of #flexibility for #renewables. Nonetheless, all forces should pitch in: technology neutrality is key when working towards 2030 goals. ⚙ #Industrialpolicy & #competitiveness Debates on climate and industrial policy should converge, moving towards a #greengrowth agenda and an #IndustrialGreenDeal with #sustainability, #competitiveness and #jobs at its heart. Moreover, local content requirements are essential to avoid the deindustrialisation of the continent. 📈 #Finance Financial support should be scaled up for project implementation and for making the #greentransition a #justtranstition. 🍃 #Youth and the future Youth should be reassured on #climate and #environment topics, while being guaranteed a job-secure future. 🌍 #Europe and the world #ETS should become global, providing a level playing field worldwide. Europe has been an example-setter of #carbonneutrality, and a climate envoy would be key in exporting the concept. Building up on these outcomes, and preparing for the #2030 targets, #H2Europe has recently sent a letter to EC President Ursula von der Leyen on how to deliver decarbonisation through competitiveness ✉ https://lnkd.in/egTYXkfd Want to know more? 🔊 The results of the #H2Global pilot auction for the #renewableammonia lot have been published! 📝 Fertiglobe, a joint venture between OCI Global and ADNOC Group, has signed a 7-year Hydrogen Purchase Agreement (HPA) with Hintco, running from 2027 to 2033. Under this HPA, Fertiglobe will deliver at least 40,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia per year from their plant in Ain Sokhna to the Port of Rotterdam, with potential delivery increases to between 17,500 and 33,000 tonnes annually on Hintco’s demand. 🚢 The renewable ammonia will be transported to storage tanks at Ein El Sukhna Port via an existing 7km pipeline, while Fertiglobe International Trading will oversee the seaborne delivery to #Europe. 💶 The winning bid was priced at 1000€ per tonne of ammonia, including shipping, with a production cost of 811€ per tonne (around 3.5€ per kilogram of hydrogen). This leads to a total contract value of 397 million €. 💧 The project will feature a 100 MW alkaline #electrolysis setup, fed by 273 MW of new #renewableenergy, with a production capacity of 13,000 tonnes of #hydrogen and 73,000 tonnes of #ammonia annually. 🌿 The auction attracted 22 bidders, all planning to use alkaline electrolysis, with an average electrolysis size of 145 MW per bid. The average production price bid was 1,048 EUR per tonne of ammonia, translating to nearly 5€ per kilogram of hydrogen. By targeting support for the most competitive global projects and by building strong price signals, H2Global Foundation will optimise its funding efficiency and contribute to build a functioning, global #RFNBO market. We look forward to hearing from the renewable methanol pilot auction results and the launch of the competition based sale process! Read the full report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/deAWwAsq

This week, our Chief Policy and Market Officer Daniel Fraile participated to a workshop on emissions of low-carbon #hydrogen organised by the Hungarian Presidency. Throughout the conversations with industrial and institutional stakeholders, he reiterated our main messages concerning the #LowCarbonFuels Delegated Act, namely: ➡ Ensuring a speedy adoption of the Delegated Act and simplicity of the rules. ➡Safeguarding consistence between the #RFNBOs Delegated Acts and the #LowCarbon Delegated Act by aligning the methodologies as much as possible and revising the RFNBOs Delegated Acts when the two do not match. ➡Sticking to technological neutrality in the Delegated Act to ensure all production pathways are adequately reflected. ➡ Creating a distinct regulatory framework that reflects the characteristics of dispatchable sources and enable low carbon hydrogen producers to sign PPAs with low-carbon electricity sources. ➡ Ensuring an equal recognition of all carbon removal solutions. ➡ Securing a scientific approach to accounting of hydrogen leakage, based on careful evidence based and fact checking processes. 🎯 "#Competitiveness" is a top priority in Europe, as stakeholders aim to strengthen ties between the #EUGreenDeal and industrial plans. Achieving a successful #energytransition, robust #hydrogenmarket, and resilient #energysystem hinges on efficiency and competitiveness. 🌿In an article of our latest #H2EQuarterly magazine, we explore the critical steps needed to keep Europe at the forefront of clean technology innovation and industrial production. Discover insights on: - The urgent need for a bona fide and far reaching European Industrial Deal - Strategies to prevent past mistakes in the #hydrogenmarket - The role of the Green Deal Industrial Plan in securing Europe’s industrial future ➡ “Put an industrial deal at the core of the next political cycle and install a Vice President in charge of overseeing its implementation. Not only because you need that coordination mechanism but also because it will be an enormous signal to the rest of the world that Europe is open for business. If we want to increase investments sixfold, we need the rest of world to invest in us.” said Marco Mensink, director general of Cefic. ➡ “We need to take care not to repeat the mistakes of the past. The PV (photovoltaic) industry was conceived and researched in Europe. But the financial support failed, it was stopped too early. The industrial scaling eventually took place in China. And now China has taken the millions of research dollars invested by Europe and put it into industrial production and commercialization. Europe is a great place for investment, we know what needs to be done, we just need to do it,” said Alexey Ustinov, Head of Sustainable Energy Systems in Siemens Energy. The Spanish Government allocates 794 million to seven #renewablehydrogen industrial technologies and cluster projects of the IPCEI #Hy2Use. The projects will add an additional #electrolysis power of 652 MW powered by solar, wind and hydraulic energy, and will mobilise #investments of more than 6,000 million throughout their useful life. These are five #hydrogenvalleys and two innovative industrial applications, selected by the European Commission, in Junta de Andalucía, Gobierno de Aragón - Government of Aragon, Gobierno de Asturias, Gobierno de Castilla-La Mancha, Eusko Jaurlaritza - Gobierno Vasco and the Comunidad Autónoma de la Región de Murcia. The Government increases its commitment to renewable hydrogen to replace fossil energy and eliminate #CO2emissions from industry, heavy transport and other sectors that are difficult to decarbonize. https://lnkd.in/dD_TAtiQ
