In times of crisis, every second counts. Right now, a mother fleeing conflict is stranded at a border with no support due to funding cuts. A displaced family is forced onto the streets as shelters shut down. A refugee awaiting resettlement is told their case is on hold and returned to an uncertain future in the refugee camp. Food aid is slashed. Shelters are closing. Emergency medical care is stretched beyond capacity. We are facing a global humanitarian and development funding crisis, threatening lifesaving services for millions. The gap between urgent needs and available resources has never been wider – and it’s growing. Without immediate action, the most vulnerable will bear the heaviest burden. 🍃 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 #𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 #𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 🍃 I am thrilled to share an article in TIME that I co-wrote with the indomitable Fatou Jeng on three of the inaugural winners of the World Economic Forum's #GAEA awards: Built by Nature, HYBRIT, and the Youth Climate Justice Fund. Each of these winners is using ingenuity and creativity to tackle some the greatest challenges (climate! nature!) of our lifetimes. As an anchor funder (via Laudes Foundation) to Built by Nature, we are particularly inspired by how, in only three years, the organisation has mobilised almost 100 frontrunner companies (investors, developers, asset owners, insurers, etc.) across four countries to bring nature back into #buildings. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭? Well, the built environment (including the steel and concrete needed) represents almost 40% of greenhouse gas emissions. If we care about climate, we need to care about buildings and explore, as Built by Nature does, new ways to bring #timber and other #bio-based materials into construction.
